My son told me to pick watermelon that has yellow spot with dirt on it. Works everytime with sweetness. I'm at store doing the same thing going through watermelon to get right one. 😊😊

The 'yellow' spot is due to that side being the one in connection with the ground as the fruit grows. Once the 'stem' turns brown, the plant will no longer give 'nutrients' to that watermelon and I believe ZE below is actually correct about waiting for a week or so to let the 'sugars' build up BUT that was a 'Store brought' Watermelon so it was probably SHIPPED from the farm to Walmart and if it wasn't _locally sourced_ it was a few days to a week that it was on the road so 'No Wait Time' needed.

I think you have to wait one to two week after the steam turn brown so the watermelon will become sweet. The watermelon has to be on the plan once the steam turns brown you have to wait about week or two weeks.

The spot should be yellow on the bottom where it was sitting on the ground. If the spot is white that means it was picked too soon before it had time for the sugars to develop.
