I was travelling and filming in Singapore and I thought, hey why don't I do a vlog here with a friend of mine, Edlin, who's currently studying there.
I've been to Sarawak for a couple of times and I really gotta admit that the girls there are on point! Would definitely love to head back there for more adventures!

I'm from Miri, the northern part of Sarawak. Some words here like 'odorono' and 'kelontet' are just so unfamiliar. Mostly used by the older generation. Besides that, Kuching and Miri dialects are different as well. Kuching sounds sing songy and has a lot more words. My Kch friends told me we Mirians sound a bit harsh and monotone? I guess. Feel free to explore the language a bit more, it's fun. Boh malu2 mok kelaka ngan orang sitok. :D

"Tek" = kalau org letak "Tek" dalam ayat, maksud dia benda tu BARU SAJA BERLAKU / TADI - JUST NOW dan ianya selalu digunakan didalam soalan atau penyataan fakta. 1) "tek" dalam soalan. i) Pa khabar kitak aritok tek? : How are you today? : Awak apa khbar harini?** ii) Kitak ada nunggah kamek tek nak? : You called me just now ? : Awak panggil saya tadi kan? iii) Ada kitak dengar apa dipadah nya tek? : Did you hear what he said just now? : Awak ada dengar tak dia bagitau apa tadi? 2) Penyataan Fakta : i) Tek kitak juak madah A : Just now you said A : Tadi awak cakap A ii) Tek si A carik kitak : Just now "A" was looking for you : "A" cari awak tadi. Ada certain time "Tek" ni digunakan untuk cukupkan slang. macam sabah "bah"

Odorono is indeed an old word, it was included into the vocabulary as a household name as it was the brand name of an early deodorant sold circa 50s-60s. It was not just the Malays who called it like that, we Bidayuhs also did use the same name. My late grandpa used to use that word and in fact, he used to have the containers of Odo-Ro-No stuffed in his storeroom.

I laugh like a madman when I heard Odorono. Classic! Actually, my folks said odorono is some kind of deodorant label from long time ago. My Mak Nek and Pak Nek are the generations that had a chance to used it. And one more thing is Omo (which mean detergent). It got its name and history same with odorono.

Actually, it's not just Pinoy language. It's derived from Proto-Austronesian, the ancestor of Tagalog, Malay, Iban, Maori and etc. I guess Sarawakian Malay retained these words and also native words like 'aok' which is similar to Filipino 'oo' which means 'yes'.

come on, belon not balon, belon actually is a chinese translated flying boat 飞轮。 infact,it should be pronounced as helon, but native of sarawak followed unaccurately become belon.

The girl pronounce "R" incorrectly. We do not roll our tongue for "R"s. Only some folks who have been exposed or grow up with the modern English or West Malay influence (specifically city folk) will adopt that kind of "R", in which are not fancied by local, and it became as a way to mock person of their racial identity status. The genuine and authentic "R" sounds more like the German's "R" or the French's "R". Pronounce it like something stuck in your throat. Listen to this song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6jQmGl6l8p6pNE Notice how he pronounce the "R" in the word "Sarawak".
