In this tutorial I will show you how to place an image into a stroke in Adobe Illustrator. Open the program, place an image in program, then create a shape, select the shape and click on fill color and select none, with the shape selected add stroke, then with the shape selected go to object - path - outline stroke, then select the image and the shape and right click - make clipping mask. It is important to put the shape above the image for this clipping mask effect.

If you outline the stroke, then it's no longer a stroke.
