Love the video. So fun to have a different perspective ready in the wings! The God Eater Saga sounds amazing and I can't wait to pick it up. I have a WIP that is currently on hold because I decided I was going to combine two trilogies into one 6 book series. Yeah it was a bad decision, so when I find time, I'll be redoing it as two trilogies as I originally wanted. Its a big project and I'm not ready to tackle it yet.

Great video, thanks! And timely. I'm finishing the second book in a completely pantsed web serial and realizing, "You know, I need a plot." You really helped me put my thoughts in some sort of order. Unrelated. What is that mic in your hand? It sounds awesome.

I’m so glad it helped! The mic is Hollyland M1 lavalier. It’s a good budget mic. Good battery, good price

As a visual person, i love the pen on paper depictions! When i first started writing my series, i knew only how it would begin, and how it would end. Each book ends some sort of arc, but opens up a new one, and it would look a lot like your "Yendiana" Jones pictogram 😊 I'm also a pantser so it's been an interesting ride

I wanna say that your videos is really helping me. I finally accepted that the fisrt draft is a draft, it doesnt need to be already the final perfect product. Now I write without any block or fear of getting something not well described or good, it's just the ideas flowing and then at least I'll have something to work and make it better. I have developing two sagas, one high fantasy and one urban fantasy, in the same world, but with different take aways. But the core is to make them easy to understand and also a good storytelling using all the writing tools andd advices I'm getting here.
@Writing-Theory4 ай бұрын
Wow! I’m so glad to hear that!! Keep working on those stories and consider joining the discord when you’re ready to share them and get some good feedback. The first draft is the HARDEST part, but it’s so incredibly rewarding when you hold a complete printed out story of yours for the very first time. You can do it!

I have an insane and daunting idea for a "Novel Web". 5 independent threads, each with 5-6 books, each with their own series arc and individual book arcs. All creating an over-arching narrative. Only approximately 2,250,000 words all together.
@PhoenixCrown4 ай бұрын
I completely agree at 8:15. A series is ONE story. I think the important part is that each book has a climax and resolution of one PART of the story. In other words, more questions may be raised or even end on a cliffhanger, but there is a satisfying resolution to the main conflict in each book. This frustrated me about one of my favorite series, Wheel of Time, where some books would pass, and I'd be like "What even happened in this book?"

I'm writing the fifth book in my series. Each book is a standalone story, but they're also each a piece of the bigger ongoing story. Dozens of characters, plotted out over several years of events. I had to make my own big honkin database to keep track of everything.

Another great video! That is an awesome idea that Rob has, I can’t wait to check out his books. It sounds like he’s done so much work and I really respect that! I’m trying to write just 1 book, but I’ve done so much research in the world that I really can’t imagine abandoning all that research after 1 book. So maybe using a smaller character from book 1 to write another standalone in the same world.

I've done some work on indie comics (never went anywhere sadly), but would love to give you a hand if you need a developmental editor to give it a look over.

@@upg5147 I appreciate the offer but this has been a solo project for many, many years and I’d like to keep it that way. It has many complicated topics that I can’t really properly put into words yet, let alone cohesively share it with someone else. Good luck on your creative journey and I wish you the best of luck
@upg51474 ай бұрын
@@fousyn No offense, but that sounds like all the more reason for you to need an editor. You need to be able to get your thoughts and ideas across to as many people as possible as easily as possible. If you talk to me when you're already posting on webtoon or such, then it's pretty late for me to do much. I don't mean to push or anything and if you want to keep this story close to your chest, feel free. Just know, once you post it, that will no longer be the case and you'll have to be ready to accept a lot of criticism, both good and bad.
@fousyn4 ай бұрын
@@upg5147 I completely understand. However, posting my story is the final goal and is most likely many more years into the future. I’m still young, only 15, and I’m still working on refining my art skills along with learning storytelling from scratch. Compared to what I’m aiming for, this project is in it’s very early stages. I apologize for not clarifying this and causing you to misunderstand :) I don’t need an editor at this time.
@upg51474 ай бұрын
@@fousyn Oh wow. Yeah, I assumed you were older. You definitely don't need me yet lol. Word of advice. Keep at it. You are in a golden time of information on places like KZbin tell you all you need to know. Whatever medium and genre you are trying to get into, keep up with it. It will help you see what's hot and what's not throughout the years and of course get you inspired. You have so much time and growth to do. I'd kill to know what I know now at your age. Good luck to you, I'd love to see your work down the road!

I struggle with writing a series, and my general solution is taking it one step at a time. Breaking stories down into manageable chunks so I don’t get overwhelmed by how large this plan might be.

I have a story I want to tell. But I'm not sure if book is the best media. Cuz it tells the story of my 3 main characters from childhood to adulthood. And they go on a lot of adventures, some are shorter than others, all of them connect to the main plot. But some are too short for their own book. Im not sure how to fully tell it. I basically want to explore the world I've made for these characters. And most of the advice I get just makes it look like what I want to do is just filler you know? It's meant to feel like you're growing with these characters. From young boys, to men to leaders. It's a grand adventure
