I am a US citizen, do I have to have a passport to enter Canada ? Can I just use my driver license or US citizenship instead of the passport ?

Im flying from Manchester in the UK, and its cheapest to get a return ticket. I have 2 weeks booked off work in August for a solo trip to Canada, would it be worth flying straight to Vancouver from Manchester? It would be a return flight so if i had travelled to other cities i will have to return to Vancouver
