Brilliant idea and very well executed. There is not always a need to buy more and more machines. Ingenuity trumps a big wallet - and it's more fun as well. Thanks for the great video and good luck with your next project.

I've had similar trouble using the planer in its usual orientation - I found using a cabinet scraper worked quite well for eliminating the 'step'. maybe that will help some folks. Good vid, Sergio, I always enjoy your stuff.
@MrGlyn3217 жыл бұрын
You don't actually sharpen a Cabinet scraper, what you do is file a flat edge across the end of the steel plate, you are using, to create a burr & use the burr to remove the timber. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for a good tip though...

I guess some 40 grit sandpaper, followed by 120 grit and similar would be quick enough in a hand-sander to get rid of any uneveness. Your planer setup is very nice, I remember seeing the build-video a while ago, and thought it would be quite handy to do something similar.

I would recommend to lay the planer down instead. You will have more control this way. Another thing you can do is to make 1mm overlap on the second cut, in this way you don`t need to sand. Great video.

I wonder if the marks you have left is caused by something being not exactly 90 degrees? Great ideas!

Wen makes a hand held planer that is wide enough to do a 2X4 on a single pass. Your jig + that tool would work great.

Would extending the planer at the front and back and above it help stop the unwanted marks in the wood? Also maybe having the fence higher than the board may help. Great machine, my hand planer is my most un used tool.

Hi. Great solution! Thanks for sharing. However, the material I am trying to level off is a chopping board (cutting board) and of course the wood is four-times the width of the blades . Does anyone have ideas about how to achieve a level board this wide? (I can't afford, nor do I have the space for a large static planer.) Thanks!

Do you have to have one side of your board face jointed accurately use this method?

can u use this setup to joint the wood ? i think its half mm thicker in mid coz isnt it better to joint the wood first?

while I like the idea, putting your hand behind the planer to catch the wood could be dangerous. Depending on how well the planer is fastened, hitting a knot or metal could cause the planer to kick. everyone please be carefull.

This is plain simple 😂

If the board width is more than twice the blade width you are fucked.
@McAVITYourWay.7 жыл бұрын
That is easily sorted, just raise the plan by the difference to make the centre cut.
