As someone who has worked around trees for over 20 years, I can attest that these planting techniques are pretty sound and his narration is very informative. Good job sir

Excellent tutorial and solid advice. I see so many people planting trees the exact size as container and root ball top slightly below grade then burying trunk it 6 inches of mulch. Flare should always be visible and slightly above grade.

Mix with native soil I never planted a tree that high ,I do tamp the outer ring by walking in it .Then I make a donut hole with mulch don't let it touch the tree .Wow you went crazy with mulch but hey I bet the tree likes it each tree is different .Use mushroom stuff for fertilizer .

How come you don't reuse the native soil when back filling around tree?
@thedarkestowl4224
@thedarkestowl4224 2 жыл бұрын
In many cases, it is wise to introduce store-bought, nutrient- rich soils to freshly planted trees. This inspires new root production and gets the investment off to a healthy start. Native soul can be redistributed around your property such as low areas or other projects.

Beautiful work! Pleasure to watch. How much water per week for a tree of this size? What about trees planted in summer? Should watering frequency be more than just once per week?
@crixustreeturf
@crixustreeturf 4 жыл бұрын
You know that really depends on where you live. You want to keep the soil slightly moist but don’t over saturate. Trees planted in the summer is against mist horticulture practice. I live in Texas and when you plants trees in the summer there is a lot of stress involved. I’d wait until Oct this way you get the roots establish before the next summer. But if you plant in the summer keep a water bag on it and keep it full don’t let that root ball get dry. The watering depends on your circumstances. Remember trees don’t like their feet wet... unless it is a bald cypress lol... but generally speaking just keep the soil moist but don’t over water... hope this helps... there really is so much involved when determine the context watering program for your tree... what time of year, where, what type of tree etc 😀

Here’s the label my man actually recommend in transplanting trees 🌲😀 Dosage Ratio Mixed with Water • Maintenance: Weekly/Monthly: 1/4 tsp./gal.; 3 oz./100 gals. House plants: Drop-A-Cup (4 oz cup) or 1/4 tsp./gal. (100 gallons covers approximately 150 sq. ft.) • Foliar Spray: Hand-mister; large crops - refer to proportioner for ratio. Often mixed in container at 16 X normal dosage. Spray both sides of leaves for full absorption. • Transplanting: 1 tsp./gal. • Bare-root soak: Soak until air bubbles cease. Roses: 15-30 minutes/ 11⁄2 tsps./5 gals. Trees (Including root ball & burlap): 2T. (1 oz.)/5 gals. • Trees needing extra care: 12-20 oz./100 gal. or 1 tsp./gal. • Hydroponics: 2-3 oz./100 gals. when changing or adding water, or 11⁄2-2 tsps./10 gals. • Turf (golf greens/sports turf): 3oz./100 gals. for approx. 150 sq. ft. • Hydro-seeding: 1/2 oz./100 gals.

Hi I just bought a house and I believe the two trees they planted on the front lawn are these type of red oaks. I feel they were planted too close together and they put mulch all around it up to the root. I have also noticed that the leaves are starting to roll up vertically. Can you please give me some recommendations on how to care for these trees and also if I should look into separating them more or changing anything ? I was also hoping you can recommend a another great shade tree. I appreciate your time
@crixustreeturf
@crixustreeturf 3 жыл бұрын
There are so many variations I just don’t know... I would have to see the leaves 🍁 to see if it is an insect or fungus or if the tree is deprived of Resources... was there a late freeze 🥶 etc... red oaks are popular because of the growth rate... but I favorite Oak is the Live Oak and i also love the White oak and water oak... Mulch is great because if it’s organic it actually will breakdown and provide nutrients for the tree and soil around the tree (stayed away from dyed mulch use organic). Also befor applying the mulch out some compost down first this will feed the tree and throw out some granular fertilizer that has a slow release and will feed the tree for a few months... then apply your mulch on top of all of that... you can relocate one of the trees you have but this is best done in the fall of the tree is established. I recommend 35-40 feet spacing on those red oaks hope this helps. You can also consult an arborist in your area as well

Great tutorial. Been looking to plant a pair of shade trees here in Texas and gonna follow you advice. So what’s a good rule of thumb for distance from building structure and best time of year to plant them?
@crixustreeturf
@crixustreeturf 3 жыл бұрын
You know obviously you want shade for your structure. However you don’t have to plant the tree right next to the house …. Research the mature canopy dimensions and make your decision from there

Hey brother just bought a shumard oak tree and I’m about to plant it,,, I’m from Texas but I was curious about what you were saying about the pecan tree being there close to the shumard ,,,, is there anything wrong with having a pecan close to a shumard oak?? Asking bacause I do have some pecan trees that that I just planted as well (they’re little) thanks for the video !!
@crixustreeturf
@crixustreeturf 4 жыл бұрын
Jose DI’Maria hey!! The reason why I mentioned that that pecan tree there we had a large limb die. Actually planted that red oak very close to the pecan tree because the client is gonna take it out this year ... it’s meant to replace that pecan tree... with your trees allow for enough room for the canopy to have sufficient sunlight red oaks have a 50-60 ft spread and can grow 80’. Just plant your tree high 6-8” is my recommendation personal I like 8 :) add a lot of soil around it. But I don’t know of a problem having pecans in the same area as oaks.

There's no need to cut the roots, i just read in a journal that It just makes a diference in the first year of growing, the next years the tree grows as fast as if you dont cut them.
@crixustreeturf
@crixustreeturf 4 жыл бұрын
M Garcia ok I disagree with the journal. Container grown anything always cut the roots and rough up with root ball. This forces the tree to establish the roots. Forces the roots to reach out if you will. Doesn’t even matter if your planting an azalea shrub or any other shrub plant or tree. If is container grown cut the roots. And it does make a difference in the first year of growing. That’s the most critical year wouldn’t you agree? Lol that’s the only part of what you wrote I agree with.
