Curious if you have every worked with liquid fertilizers, iron and aeration products? I pretty impressed with liquid aeration, but it’s just the cost of application and the frequency as to how you need to apply it to get the results. A nice lawn is all about the soil. Giving grass seed roots room to expand and grow so you have a healthy lawn that is super green with loose soil that allows the roots to grow deep.

My garbage lawn was 70% weeds. Started working on it in may. Spend 200$ on a push reel mower and 400$ on weed be gone 200$ on fertilizer and 120$ on seed. If you put in the time give things time to thrive you can have a completely weed free lawn in 65 days. My lawn is pure KGB with sprinkles of rye and fesue. All uniform colour due to uniform nutrients. Use triple 19 on lime spots when they obviously are pure grass. Most of the time it’s weeds sapping your water and nutrient.

I have seen several with peat moss, Conner did one recently where he put sawdust down (that got my attention as a woodworker), but here in Texas the thunderstorms are no joke and my lawn has a slope. I have to hold that seed in place. My first reno was a real learning curve. However, I found out that using lightweight burlap to cover my seed is a lifesaver! It might not be feasible for big yards, but if you are just doing 1k-2k sqft sections it works great and it's less expensive than seed blankets!

Very expensive seed. 50 lbs for $314. but its already paid for.... Wish me luck. My two landcare neighbors think I'm nuts. I like that. It really gets a little too hot in Utah for KBG. You really have fight to keep it looking good in July, August. Switched to dwarf TTTF for the deeper roots.😊

What's your recommendation without having a full kill off? My plan is: Cut grass short and bag it Dethatch/cleanup Overseed Starter Fert Compost/peat moss on top with a spreader like this. Anything you'd change here?

I’d find a scarifier if you can and add it after the dethatch

Hmm temperature is generally never an issue here in Texas, but heavy rains can ruin a freshly seeded lawn really quickly. Sometimes it just comes down to luck in good timing. It happen with my lawn this year. The front yard I thought I'd try a really early seed, first week of march actually... after a week I felt things were going so well with weather and temp, decided to seed the backyard, another week later, my front yard got established and rooted. Survived well through the first heavy rain week, but the backyard... it's all uneven and patchy. But hey, this is why you order extra seed, I'm in my second week after overseeding, and things are so nice.

I bet!!! We only get a few of those crazy rains per season. yesterday being one of them. I can only imagine the frustration.

@@pestandlawnginja Oh hey, btw. I just realized the monaco bermuda seed I have was developed by Barenbrug, but sourced through Johnston seed co. It's looking like these guys know what they are doing.

Called it on the ryegrass :p can't wait for the first mow video! My bluegrass reno is kicking as well :) tons of water though, in the same boat as you with the high temperatures.

8:57 you showed in your other video that the Peak Seasons Compost Spreader was perfect for peat moss and left no lines, but you still went with the land-z. also, your complaint for the peak seasons was that it spread too much "big chunks" out, but you are using a rhizomatic, which depends on those "big chunks" for shelter to make colonies!

Rye grass grows fast. I used it with KBG to gain a stand until the KBG germinated and filled in.

right on! great way to do it

I’m about ready to do the same. For the same reasons. I’ve got about 15 different grass types In The front (PRG overseed ugly lawn project) and I’ve got lines and striping also. About to kill it all off and replant some good KBG. My jury is still out on the PRG disease tolerance and heat tolerance (cool season here.) it got hot quick here this year and my PRG checked out quick. 😖 And PRG germinates quickly too. 6 days for me so the same.

super frustrating. I get dry heat and not as much humidity here. makes a big difference.

Laid this seed down on Thursday last week so I’m in the middle of my 4th day. I haven’t seen any sprouting yet but keeping the faith. I live in Lehi and I started out watering every 2 hours for 5 minutes and it stayed nice and wet (but not swampy). Over the last day and a half that hasn’t seemed sufficient so I’m now at every hour for 5-7 min. Sound right?
@SurviveTheDay3 жыл бұрын
Why peat-moss instead of compost? Compost retails moister much better and isn’t susceptible to wind and water movement. But you got good results so that’s pretty cool.
@pestandlawnginja3 жыл бұрын
the peat hold a ton of water. i don't like the wood chips compost has. overall its a preference.

You will be fine with 2 passes of that peat moss especially when its hot. I seed fescue in vegas it will be in the 90s some days. Make sure you hand water edges or other dry spots. Peat moss is extra fine so you can't let it dry cuz it will blow away.

I did a test plot a blend of the RPR and the KBG The rye is def getting hit with the heatwave we have had this year in Utah. I did a 50/50 blend. I'm testing other varieties, but I like the color of the Brenbrug. Haven't decided on what I would do for my reno, but if I do choose Barenbrug I am going to go heavier on the ratio for KBG. Probably 70/30

We also have a pre-mixed product in HGT/RPR (80/20)! Always welcome custom mixing to your environment and/or preference, however! Ryegrass and drought don't necessarily mix to some degree (no pun intended), as you experienced.
@pestandlawnginja3 жыл бұрын
They're 80/20 mix is legit. I've played with it and seeded customer lawns with it.
