Prunus illicifolia is great for animals! Host plant to a lot of butterflies (including two kinds of swallowtail) and I've seen crows enjoy the cherries.

@jamiearp6429 I just came from the San Mateo campground in San Clemente, and there are dozens and dozens of Catalina Cherry trees there, covered with cherries, and a lot more on the ground.
