The deer ate my hydrangeas down to the ground, so when I saw this I moved one into a pot this spring, and put it where they won’t get them. It has a few leaves growing, hopefully it will make it! Thanks for this advice!

After murdering hydrages I used the wrong soil and didn't put more holes in the bottom for draining. Now with your channel I finally got it right. I live in northern CA and the nights were cold. My hydragea I just bought I covered every night. Next month I bought a bigger pot used peat moss and added perlite with stones on the bottom for drainage. It took off like crazy, I've got buds growing. This one is white and I bought a pink one. Same thing and both plants growing like crazy!!! I'm so happy 😊 now that I know what I'm doing!!! Thank you so much 💓 Subscribed

Most pots have no holes or just one. Is that why you added stones? How did you cover them?

Well --- This is definitely a Why didn't I think of That moment for me. My mama could grow the most beautiful hydrangeas in Virginia where I was raised. I got in so much trouble, breaking off those big flowers and playing "bride" ! LOL But, I live in tropical South Florida and I tried a few times in the yard with no luck. Why didn't I ever try them in a pot on my patio ? Just enough sun to grow flowers but not enough to burn the plant ! Wish me luck !

I’m also in FL 10a and got a rescue plant from Walmart back in February. The plant THRIVES in dappled shade but will burn as soon as I put it in a place with more than 3 hours of even just morning sunlight. Hopefully it’ll make it through the summer without any mildew problems but it’s doing good so far. Good luck!

Update:I did try doing this and split one plant 3 ways for 3 pots I'm not sure what happened but they all flopped the next day. Spent too much money on them for that to happen. So I was going to throw them out but cut them down a ways and left all the stems in each pot Will they grow back if I leave them like this??? If I do it again I am just leaving it like a bush to grow as intended.

It's normally a good idea to place crocks in the bottom of the pot or container you are planting into to ensure good drainage. And you may need to move shrubs to a larger pot every two or three years, as they grow.

I planted a dance rhythmic blue hydrangea in pots last month. I’ve kept blueberries alive in containers for over 4 years, so I figured hydrangeas wouldn’t be much harder. Watching your video made me wish, my pots were prettier.. kinda was hoping the video discussion was more about verity options, which hydrangeas do best in pots. I don’t really need to know, but I just enjoy watching gardening related videos..

I have one hydrangea on a pot for few years now, and was doing good, not until I transplanted to a new and big pot last year. I did think she like it. We’ll see how she will do this year. I am diagnosed with arthritis and I have some limitation, so this is why I am starting to plant some perennials that I don’t have to remove them after the summer is over. I don’t know much about plants, but I trying to grow the kind that’s easy to care. I live in zone 8. Any recommendations? I am also will like to by more hydrangeas and planted on pots. Thank you and an amazing day!🌞🪴🎋🍄🌹hope you understand my message,since my primary language is Spanish!

I know this sounds crazy but the only hydrangeas that I have had luck with are the ones they sell at the big box stores for Mother’s Day I found 10 at Walmart on the clearance rack that were all dry and leave less for 3.00. I bought them all planted them and with in 60 days they had all leaved out and had blooms. I figured that they wouldn’t make it thru the winter but they did even when we had zero degree temperatures. I’m waiting now to see if they bloom this year. They have really put on size and look great. Unfortunately my endless summer ones look to be on their last legs again. So annoying.

Try adding blood meal about size of a quarter when reporting and also when buds start growing just once. U need to feed them or they shrink up. Don't feel bad. I've murdered about 10 but I'm not giving up. I finally got it with this vid. Twice size of pot it came in mix with peat moss and perlite gently tmremove soil at root ball just a little so big roots are free gently place in New pot add more peat moss and perlite top with quarter size blood meal around plant water throughout and your done. Secret is pot needs to have those holes. I wasn't doing that they need at least 6 holes. Never let them sit in water. Top soil dry add water. If moist leave them alone.

I murdered many and now i know what to do: Let your plant stay in its pot for a month to get used to your area. Cover nightly if it gets cold and remove covering in the morning. Water lightly. After a month buy a new pot about twice the size the pot it was it. Dollar tree has pebbles so buy one pack. These will go in the bottom of the pot. Wash pot and rinse well. Poke many holes for drainage. Test with some water make sure its draining. Now put in your peat moss and then some perlite and mix keep adding. Then put in your hydragea manipulate tge root ball gently to remove some soil then place gently in pot. Keep adding peat moss and perlite and top with a quarter size of blood meal sprinkle around the plant. Water thoroughly till it drains thru and your done. Make sure it doesn't sit in water.

H E L P !!!!!!!!!! I bought a hydrangea and it was alll good! Till I took it outside for a while ... it wasn’t in direct sunlight it was underneath the porch top per say, but when I came back to bring it I side it was completely dropping and the flower petals were turning brown and it’s been like that for 2 days now and I have been watering it I even took it out of the plastic pot I bought it in and replanted it in another pot bigger size and I added organic pot soil and fertilizer at the bottom and put the plant in there and filled it up with solid and I did actually at the mixed in some orchid coarse soil because I saw that mulch was good too for hydrangeas so I added orchid soil but honestly nothing is happening on the contrary it became super soft and droopy the stems are so soft now they won’t stand in their own!!! What can I do I’m seriously upset over this!!! I need help please!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏🏻

I don't have an answer for you and I am very new to this but.... I have been trying to figure out my hydrangeas as well. I live in N Ga and my brother lives Durham NC. His hydrangeas don't get much sunlight at all and they look great. I started looking around here and found one of my neighbors has a gorgeous hydrangea in a inside corner of the house and gets zero sunlight all year around. I have 3 plants, one white, 2 blue. One gets a few hours and is watered daily, it's done fairly well. Another gets 4-5 hours of sun, daily water and has brown spotted leaves only produced one bloom so far. The third gets about 2 hours of sun, and is not watered daily. It bloomed later in the summer (white) and they have been keeping their color the longest of the three. I say all that to say, I have reason to believe sunlight isn't as important for hydrangeas as most other flowering plants.
@margaretcaine42193 жыл бұрын
I live in a Mediterranean climate, and so I leave them outside all year round. In our hot summers they are very sun and heat sensitive, and need to be watered every day, and shaded from direct sun. Once burnt, they won't recover until spring when they make new growth. At the end of summer I prune them quite hard, to a bud and they remain bare all winter. As the flowers fade it is normal for them to lose colour.
