I have a kiwi plant that I've been growing for the last 2 years I didn't follow all of the specs that you mentioned and your video. My kiwi is grown in partials sunlight the soil is primarily clay however loaded with compost. It also has one single plant and it still produces fruit with out a mate none of my neighbors have kiwi plants. Therefore it depends on the variety that requires a male or female plant. Very good video keep up the good work

Got the self pollinating specie too. Less space required and lots of fruit, if not even more. :)

Awesome video, Donald. How long does it take to produce fruit? Where should you plant the male plant among the female ones? Got me inspired!!

Yes, there are also smaller varieties without fuzzy skin that you eat like grapes, some of them are even hardy to -30°F/-34.4°C. Google for Actinidia Deliciousa (regular store bought fuzzy kiwi), Actinidia Arguta (small, no hairs, more hardy) and Actinidia Kolomikta (also no hairs, alternative to Arguta). You need a male and a female vine to get fruit.

How do you know a male to a female?
@donaldporta3 жыл бұрын
When determining the sex of kiwi blooms, the female will also have bright white, well defined ovaries at the base of the flower, which, of course, the males lack. The ovaries, by the way, are the parts that develop into fruit. Male kiwi flowers have a brilliantly colored yellow center due to its pollen bearing anthers.
