@@halstirruptypically on a magic mix, I’d add a handful or two of bonding per bag of multi finish. Heavier the artex, more handfuls you add. There’s no actual ratio, it’s not something British gypsum recommend or will cover if it goes wrong

Watched this as a 'customer' having recently had my extension, hall, stairs and landing plastered. After watching this I realised what a true professional is. Its taken several weeks repeatedly filling and sanding the 'finished' plastered surfaces to get them good enough to paint. It was after this point I realised what a bunch of muppets I had contracted. A very time consuming mistake.

I use magic mix for first coat. That way, l can put on a lot of meterage on a ceiling on my own. l am now 50 years old and still going strong I came across your channel by accident, but when I watched your videos, I had to laugh because I was taught exactly the same way when I was young from my old timers back then is great to know there is people out there that work the same as me and you do things right and really help people out when we can the satisfaction I get from it is just unreal. I can't really explain to you, but you know what I mean

Great channel Kirk, proper plastering like the way we do it in Northern Ireland 💪 Some of these KZbin channels, mainly in the south of England, I watch and giggle at their techniques. Today I done a ceiling patch with SBR instead of PVA (I had a bad experience skimming on SBR before), a joy to blend. Still on the fence though as I was always taught to coat on SBR/PVA when tacky. If this patch falls on someone head I'm blaming you 😂 All the best, Boardy.

When You edit the audio use negative decibel numbers. about -10 DB to -20 DB in the audio gain. literally just use the - symbol. Right click the audio track, audio gain, use negative numbers. 0 isn't low enough compared to your talking so you have to turn up and down volume the whole video inst ideal. Make your audio the same volume all the way through using the audio wave. keep it all in the top of the green and never go into the red. will take 10 minutes but well worth it. Also my OX speed skim telescopic pole broke on the threads on the 3rd ceiling! But I can absolutely smash out plastering now! wouldn't ever want to not use a speed skim! Timing is everything.

@@Onthetrowel Glad it helped mate. If you clap close to the mic or use a power tool. Use the razor to snip each side of the audio wave that is off the chart. Then you can change the audio gain for just that noise. So if You come close to the mic I would turn to -10DB. Then You clap. I snip the clap and use -50DB. Then you walk away I use 0DB Then You face away I use +10DB. Using the razor tool to snip each section into its own segment. to keep the overall audio wave in the green and level. It sounds like it takes ages but You get fast and know your level soon enough. Thanks for all the great advice You give.

Have you ever put a straight edge both directions on a wall you skimmed to see if it flat. Why don’t you use speed skims?

After getting a few hefty blobs of plaster in my eyes over the years i always feel uncomfortable watching someone do a lid and not wear glasses🫣. After what i can only describe as the 'torture' of getting my eye rinsed out at the hospital and the days after of not being able to open my eye i now always wear them on ceilings.
