Your analysis is spot on except for the fear being antisynergistic , when they cant see you they already have disadvantage on attacks against you, but the fear option is for when you are in the light and cant hide keeping the disadvantage on attacks against you keeping that basically as a definsive boost when you can't be sneaky in the dark

Gloomstalker War Cleric seems like the most effective way to play. Gloomstalker gives you pretty much permanent advantage so your attacks are solid and Cleric has a lot of spells that upcast well so you’ll never have to worry about falling off like most other Martials.
@Haseo13darknessАй бұрын
The way you play gloom stalker is to take 3 lvls, the 3 lvls in rogue and then ALL IN on war cleric. Spirit guardians, shield of faith, bonus action dash - give everyone a once over with spirit guardians - ready action move - move on never person’s turn. ready move action

I went 8 levels Gloomstalker and the rest (6 levels so far) into Trickery Domain Cleric. It's awesome, and _incredibly_ tanky with liberal use of _sanctuary_ and sometimes _shield of faith_ or _protection from evil & good._ At level 12, this character literally soloed _Vecna: Eve of Ruin's_ Hertilod (basically an adult dragon) until both he and the Hertilod were at half health and the rest of the party showed up.

Does 2024 change frightened condition? In 5e frightened works as long as the frightened creature has line of sight to the source of the fear. It doesn't say that frightened needs to see the frightee.
@2ndlevelfighter2 ай бұрын
I just take it for granted that 'line of sight' means that they can see them, but I guess that they're technically not the same. But yeah, it's unchanged.
@royaloreo12752 ай бұрын
@@2ndlevelfighter I just checked, apparently sage advice is that if you can't see something, you don't have line of sight. That complicates my plans.

Probably for the best but that is a bit annoying!

Dreadful strike is from fey wanderer, not gloomstslker
@zandreweyers48572 ай бұрын
Gloom stalker also has Dreadful strike "Level 3: Dread Ambusher PHB'24 p125 You have mastered the art of creating fearsome ambushes, granting you the following benefits. Ambusher's Leap. At the start of your first turn of each combat, your Speed increases by 10 feet until the end of that turn. Dreadful Strike. When you attack a creature and hit it with a weapon, you can deal an extra 2d6 Psychic damage. You can use this benefit only once per turn, you can use it a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest. Initiative Bonus. When you roll Initiative, you can add your Wisdom modifier to the roll."

Good catch! One of them is plural and the other is singular and now I'll never not get them confused.

They changed it in the new PHB, because reasons. If you ever had any doubts about playing a ranger, this should dispel them completely, now you can just go play a fighter or a paladin, much better experience all around.

Here's how you play a Gloomstalker.... convince your DM the 2024 version DOES NOT exist and play the old version 😂
@tantalus_complexАй бұрын
I can speak from experience playing a 2014 Gloomstalker for months and then changing the same character over to the 2024 version last month: I'm happy with the change. I'm not shutting down encounters on Round 1 so much anymore, which is VERY good, because everyone else at the table was feeling worthless. And on the other hand, I'm dealing more consistent damage across all turns, so I feel much less like a one-trick pony who feels cheated if I miss out on martial attacks in Round 1 for any reason. That also means I'm more likely to actually _use_ my spell slots. Meanwhile, every single other character at the table (monk, sorcerer, rogue, warlock) got significant improvements. So they're feeling great and I'm feeling great. And we're _far_ more likely to actually survive _Vecna: Eve of Ruin._ Before this, it was exceedingly touch-and-go, especially when my Gloomstalker was out/stunned/occupied.
@ilejovcevski792 ай бұрын
It's terrible. 2d6 3 times per day on average, isn't that good at lower levels. And by the time you reach 20 in wisdom, 2d6 or 2d8 is worth squat even on a crit. I wouldn't touch this class with a 12ft long rusty halberd, let alone play it.
@2ndlevelfighter2 ай бұрын
It does sadly start looking underwhelming even when compared to the horizon walker.

its still good but it feels really unnecessary to butcher gloomstalker like this i would be fine if it was a good rework but its just lazy as usual dreadful strike after a couple levels is laughable damage it doesnt scale well and the fear focus that they promised is at fing 11th level and its fear for a ROUND what fear effect in the game isnt a 1 minute with repeats and for a class that needs its highest in dex and probably good con if your melee you dont get much uses at all of this power i personally didnt think gloomstalker needed a nerf but ik it was coming and im just disappointed we should be bringing other subclasses up to its level since base ranger is kinda lacking not nerfing down the little cool things the ranger has
