I have long noticed that harp glissandos were used quite often in the 70s in a lot of pop and tv/ movie music. lol. That’s where i came to know them from.

What kind of harp do you have? And do you recommend any harps for beginners?
@hannahwhite50948 жыл бұрын
I use a Lyon and Healy style 17. And to answer your second question; lever harps are the best beginning harps to use. Lyon and Healy, Salvi, as well as Dust Strings, Triplett, and Blevins are good brands to look at.

Thanks for the video. This might help me to play the glissando part with less hurting my fingers. Plus, you made the sound so amazing. Any idea to relief the sore and blasters (blood) from the fingers?
@hannahwhite50946 жыл бұрын
The more you play, the tougher and more calloused your fingers will become, which will help prevent blisters/bleeding. There is an early stage of building up that resistance on your fingers. I suggest playing just short of developing blisters, and then building on that every day so that you get a good callous to work with- that will prevent blisters from happening. Thanks for watching!

Hannah what does it mean when an harp part has notes in parentheses? For example in Ravels Introduction and Allegro for Harp he annotates where some naturals are, is there a composition method writing for harp?
@hannahwhite50946 жыл бұрын
www.amazon.com/Writing-Pedal-Harp-NEW-INSTRUMENTATION/dp/0520048326 this is a well acknowledged book for writing for the harp. Let me check on the Ravel for the notes in parentheses. I do not want to misspeak. Thanks for watching!

So if the harp is tuned in a key how would you play accidentals? And would you have to retune it to use in a song in a different key?
@Harmonica20007 жыл бұрын
I think that's why we need a pedal harp, so that you can adjust the string up or down a semitone by pressing the pedal. I'm not a harpist, but it is what I know. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@accipitergentilis23125 жыл бұрын
There are two types of harps. Pedal and lever harps. Pedal harps use pedals, lever harps levers for making the tone higher. Normally a harp is tuned in es major (my english is not good, but I think that must be right). Some pedal harps have the opportunity for all keys, but lever harps and normal pedal harps not.

I'm wondering how you know where to stop the gliss. It sounded almost as if you used your thumb to pluck that last note. Am I right?
@hannahwhite50944 жыл бұрын
Yes! At the top of the gliss, the thumb is plucking. Also, as for where to stop the gliss, typically that is notated in the music. A gliss generally has a starting and stopping note written in the gliss.

Hello, I would like to play the harp, but idk how expensive it's one, and if there are of different kinds, I saw one like yours in an online store here in México and it's like $110,000 dolars, I don't know if it's fake the one in the online shop or something but my question is, are there harps worth less than $600,? Because I saw some harps, but they was like toys, I hope u can answer me, by the way you are pretty, and saw other videos of you and you play really good.

Please excuse forwardness but you are very very lovely.
Your English (maybe it is US-English which I don't know, so I understood only few words) was for me indecipherable, so I tried to look more to your fingers to find out, what you do. But in the face of the low contrast of your video, I haven't seen clearly what you do with your fingers playing glissando. It was too quick for me. Can you explain me in written words, what do you do with your fingers in giving them numbers (1 thumb, 2 index finger etc.) and which of them are touching the strings if move your hand up or with the left hand down. Written English is for me better to understand, because it is more orientated to British English, which I know.
@old_time_fun_with_disney78815 жыл бұрын
The only difference between British English and American English is a few different spellings and a different accent. They are basically the same thing. It isn't even called British English or American English. It is just called English throughout.
@filipjonathan4 жыл бұрын
Your comment literally doesn't make sense. If you can understand a British person, you can most certainly understand an American. Plus, Hanah speaks very clearly so I don't understand (pun) how it was unclear.
