I've become obsessed with playing as Tifa that I've just set her as battle leader whenever I can. She's so fun to play.

How to play Tifa: Put First Strike, Skill Master, and ATB Stagger materia on her. Give her the feathered gloves with a ton of speed, ATB boost, and attack substats. Make sure you have the concentration activation rate. With this equipment, you basically always have ATB and you almost always start at +1 chi. 1.) Start the battle, immediately Unbridled Strength. 70% of the time this puts her at Chi level 3 (red). If you're at Chi level 2 (yellow), get to Chi level 3 (red). Never hit triangle to expend this Chi unless you're in a burst window or you're nearing the end of a fight. The triangle ability deals almost as much, if not the same amount, as almost every other one of Tifa's ATB abilities, and it's more useful to just make use of the combo potential it provides unless you're in a burst window (popping Unbridled Strength just to Omnistrike deals less damage than Overpower or Dive Kick and takes twice as much time and actions). 2.) Spam square, weaving in Overpower whenever you start to miss an enemy, you hit the end of an attack combo, or when you think your targetted enemy might start to attack soon. The damage and pressure this way is just insane and overpower can and in my opinion, should be used as a movement ability to get back into the fray. 3.) Starshower if you want AOE, or if you have a second to attack without worrying about getting hit with something big. Starshower is very powerful since it buffs your next attack. I rarely Starshower back to back unless I really want to pump out more AOE, and Cloud is better at AOE anyways so it's almost better to switch to him. 4.) With the attack combos and the overpower combo, a lot of enemies will be pressured pretty quickly. If you ever pressure an enemy, I like to string in focused strikes, while keeping my ATB charges above one. Only Focused Strike at 2 ATB charges because it'll help you when you actually stagger the enemy. You don't have to worry about this as much if you have the ATB Stagger Materia on. 5a.) Once the enemy is staggered, you switch to a priority list. True Strike is your highest priority, then spamming triangle until you're out of chi (triangle 3 times), then spamming damaging ATB abilities that aren't True Strike, I prefer Overpower and Starscourge, then attacking. ATB charges should always be used on True Strike if you have it. Only use other stuff if you don't have True Strike. 5b.) If things go your way and Skill Master materia works with you, you will True Strike twice (3 times if Skill Master materia procs), increase the enemy's stagger % from 160 to 220 (or 250), Rise and Fall, Omnistrike, Rising Uppercut. At this point the enemy's stagger % is around 270% (300%), True Strike again until you're out of True Strikes, then just attack for ATB. Try to squeeze as much ATB usage out during this phase. 6.) Once the enemy is no longer staggered, attack until you can get your Unbridled Strength back to Chi level 3 (red) and start over at step 2.

This comment is gold! I love spamming her true strike on a staggered opponent together with Aerith's Ray of Judgment. To add to this, you should also cast haste on her as much as possible! This will really get her ATB going all throughout the fight. Refocus also is great on her but it's if the party will fight further (no pun intended :)) aka dragging boss fights. Transference Module is also great on her. It will make her limit gauge fill faster because she always uses her ATB gauge. This may seem wasteful in terms of materia slots for some but putting Warding Materia + Time Materia on her vs enemies with slow will really help. This is super essential because she relies very much on how fast her ATB gauge fills. I have not tried this yet though but if you want to forgo her ATB and Limit potential and just go for pure damage, try using her metal gloves and put 2 luck up materias on her. I just saw this on reddit, so credits to Yuyuko_Saigyougi. It apparently makes you hit so hard as if the enemy is always in stagger especially when using starshower. They really made her character enjoyable to play! Lots of gameplay potentials that I'm seeing.

Holy sh!t, the name of this video should be “Why You Are Using Tifa Wrong” lol, I had literally no idea her combo strings went on longer/harder when upping her Chi levels, I’d just get to level 3 and Rise and Fall and Omnistrike, rinse and repeat. Working on Hard Mode and this is definitely gonna game change my upcoming fight with Air Buster and the final 2 Shinra Combat Sim Challenges I have left. Thank you. 🙏

There is no doubts Tifa can kick ass and then some thanks to her extensive martial arts training, but she also doesn’t want to cause innocent people to suffer. At that same token, she also wants to protect those she cherishes, so she’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. Does she choose to fight and save those she loves while causing other people to suffer or does she play the pacifist and be powerless to stop her loved ones dying? This comes to a head in the secret conversation Cloud has with Tifa after the plate collapse; she failed to protect everyone and breaks down crying from it. So as you can no doubt see, they made Tifa a hell of a lot more three dimensional and nuanced than her original counterpart...who just also happened to be three dimensional...

I think that’s what makes her interesting. Because of her ungodly strength, you would expect her to be aggressive, hotheaded, and maybe even a little tomboyish, but she isn’t. Her strength doesn’t define her and she has a personality outside of “girl who punches things.” She’s a modest, conservative person who also just so happens to be a great fighter. She’s a refreshing character.

Yes, I would tap the attack button over and over again like other action RPGs. But in this one noctis can hold the attack button down and just go through a sequence of attacks which threw me off

This is NOT a Complete guide, this is a beginner guide I made on release for players to understand the mechanics behind these characters. CHAKRA is not exclusive to tifa. The combat system in this game is just fantastic. When you get to hard mode, you NEED to understand how the abilities of your characters work to maximise damage by chaining them correctly. But the whole materia system still grants you a ton of freedom to do so.

When an enemy gets staggered they have 160% you can press Triangle to up it by 5 percent each tick. I did say it increases stagger in their gauge but I didn't say it can increase the percent after they've been staggered

Her combo system reminds of a Beat Rush in arc system works games. She's able to reverse her strings and input things backwards and multiple ways it's so dynamic and I love it. It's got so many MMO elements but at the same time you are not restricted to only using rotations that link into each other one way! You can go about it multiple ways. I appreciate the input too! I'll definitely add this to my rotation friend.

Playing tifa is like playing monk, without the positionals. Unbridled strength is like activating you first of wind and by the end of your 6 GCD combos, you get your fourth greased lightning. Then, you release all the greased lightning with omnislash, same like the tornado kick or the six sided stars do. I like how you maximizing your dps by using the MMORPG logic. FF 14 mindset could be used in this game.

As a FF14 player I agree, I love that they have so many similarities. MMO combat is a smart idea, I don't have a hi level monk but I understand exactly the rotation you're talking about haha. I have a max gear Samurai and Dragoon and haven't played since Titania extreme came out and we beat that nightmare lol. Tifa is so much fun to play and I just love how on top of all the buffs she gets she can also do some crazy aerial combos when in level 2 or 3 haha so beautiful to watch

This remake is the one true remake deserving of the title. It's just amazing the amount of effort they put into this to make sure us fans and even newcomers truly enjoy this experience. I always say, there is nothing better than reexperiencing your favorite movie or game or a memory again for the first time. This game is the rare opportunity to do so. Because yes I know the story and what's about to happen, but they've expanded so much on it in a way where Im just am blown away by it! Wow! This is probably the best Tifa guide available on KZbin. I can't wait to see what you come up with in a more advanced guide. Tifa ATB monster build featuring Aerith: Feathered Gloves Haste skill master materia atb boost materia first-strike materia Atb assist materia Refocus (requires best accessory) atb ward from Aerith (with first-strike and scarf accessory) Cast refocus to start the battle. She can double chi to level 3 to give aearith meter while simultaneously gaining meter from atb ward then its basically endless atb combos. Cast full diamond tempest during starshower animation and swap back to Tifa for finisher. They make an incredible duo!

Your video is great. I always have tifa as my battle leader. The only thing you're wrong about is omni strike. It's not a punch. I thought that at first too but when I actually took the time to pay attention I noticed she actually throws an elbow. If you pause your video you can see it. Her fist is over her chest and her elbow is out. She's jumps forward and elbows the enemies in the face, chest, or stomach depending on their size.

1:24 Since Triangle changes depending on Tifa's chi level, the Square-Hold move is useful when she's above chi level 1, when you just wanna do a Whirling Uppercut. Man.... I just finished the game and didn't know unbridled strength was a status that affected combos. I thought it just powered up your very next attack, so I went the whole game ONLY following up unbridled strength with triangle, when opponent was staggered. I missed out on so much :(. I'm going to have to replay this game on hard mode to try your tips. Tifa is my fav character to play too even during original ff7 But I saw you pinned somebody's Tifa build so I wanted to share my build as well. Put first strike, deadly dodge, time, & barrier materia on cloud. When battle starts, put haste on cloud, dodge into the enemy and press square. That should fill your atb bar all the way again. Then put haste & barrier (manawall when you upgrade to it) on tifa. This turns Tifa from a glass cannon into just an unstoppable cannon, period. From that point on, I would just use overpower to dive into enemies, circle to roll behind them and then unleash a flurry of punches and uppercuts into their back (the backstabber bonus ability that increases damage done to opponents back (available on the metal knuckles weapons). And then use the starshooter ability, that flurry punch/starshooter is usually enough to stagger almost any opponent. Also make sure she has linked elemental materia on her weapon, so that she is super strong against opponents that have elemental weakness and physical weapon invulnerabilities. But putting haste on Tifa is key, it makes her so fast that you can just roll and dodge any attempts the enemy makes to try to hit you.

Her high SPD stat doesn't mean that she attacks quicker (well it might mean that too but I doubt it). It means her ATB grows WAY faster than everyone elses. Just sit there and watch her ATB with Barret (who has the lowest base SPD) and you will see a massive difference.

Tifa is by far the most badass character. Put 2 max luck materia on her with fully upgraded metal knuckles and she’s pushing 400 attack, and 200 luck! Metal knuckles also gives her a ridiculous amount of speed.

She's so fast, she can build meter in a jiffy, I would always do an Urien impression with her. 2 Chi traps create so much hit stun. and then punching them, again quickly gaining meter then doing other shit. Maybe a star shower because I like its animation. This game is so fun

Great guide! I love playing as Tifa since she racks up staffers and ATB like no other. As you pointed out, she’s rather frail, so I, personally, equipped her with the Barrier materia to boost her defenses.

Barrier on tifa makes her an enemies worst nightmare! Combining her combos with special moves is essential for those staggers. Although I didn't mention it, when an opponent becomes staggered you can tap triangle to raise their stagger damage bonus higher than 160% try it out!

Don't forget first strike, ATB stagger and boost materias with supernatural wristguards and metal knuckles for insane damage. She was my favourite from the first time I took control of her. Such a fun character.

Did martial arts my whole life. Playing as Tifa just feels "natural" to me. Followed by Cloud(though I need to work on my play style with him as I find myself forgetting to block unless Im in punisher stance.) Aerith is my nuke especially when I lay down an arcane ward. Barrett is my support tank who can dish out steady damage.

Don't sleep on her chi trap too! It's great for those pesky sentries 🙂. Also use starshower then, divekick. The animation transitions well. She plays so good in this game, and I found that I could dodge with her easier than with Cloud. She can cancel her moves to dodge immediately unlike the delay Cloud has with his animation. She really plays differently and calls for a more hands on approach because of the combos. I think the battle system is really beneficial for her playstyle. And need I mention how amazing Dolphin flurry looks? Thanks for this guide, man. Stay safe folks.

And yes she's definitely a glass cannon type of character so don't forget to utilize Barret's Lifesaver skill when he's in your party as he will tank most of the damage done to her being that she's always upfront with the enemy. It made hard mode easier for me and I hope it will be for you too! Wall Market is awesome! It's slightly different from the original but I like how they did it in here. Finally found yours after I beat the game XD Does the stagger build up relative to your damage output or the number of hits you land? I used to think I would use Tifa to increase the stagger percentage and then switch to cloud to do damage. Would you say Tifa can deal more damage per second than cloud in punisher mode? Thanks!

Tifa is the strongest single target character in the game. Cloud is a close second behind her but has better AOE multi target range. When it comes to whose better it depends on the situation for sure. That's what I love about this game it's forcing you to learn all characters which can seem daunting for others at first. But once you take the time to learn them it's much much easier. That's why I make these to help those having issues and i try to reply to every comment possible haha. In terms of stagger I think she is slightly better at putting opponents in stagger because of her hitcount. BUT that's also an issue because she can be interrupted easily. I'd say Barrett can put people in stagger much easier and once they're staggered the best character to switch to is Tifa because she does more damage while staggered than all the other characters. Just maximize unbridled strength to level 3 and just hold it until you stagger them haha. And no thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the content and I can't wait to bring you guys the advanced version of these guides talking about all their abilities I don't have her haha. Just taking my time absolutely loving this game

Use rise and fall triangle but cancel it after her first 2 air spins to keep rise and fall, cancel via divekick/focused strike/parry, focused strikes flipping back can also be cancelled by parry. so u can easily rise and fall - focused strike - parry into an enemy - rise and fall - focused strike - parry into an enemy. Stunlocks almost any enemy in the game even reno in later chapters together with rude on hard. While keeping you insanely mobile jumping across the battlefield like a maniac. Should be able to cancel some with overpower too but didnt practice enough with it yet tho

once staggered let rise and fall finish into true strike into omnistrike into true strike into uppercut into divekick if anything survives that combo, jokes on you. Also play around with her chi trap, it does mental dmg when u keep an enemy in place by stunlocking for example, staggers enemies insanely fast( id say its the best ability to get an enemy staggered if u can keep the enemy in it) just corporate it into your combo after a cancel from focused strike by a parry, because you stand into them and the enemy is likely be mini-staggered a bit

Something very major that you failed to mention was that using her triangle skills after an enemy is staggered will actually increase the bonus damage higher then the default

1:25 correct me if I'm wrong, but holding square gets you the uppercut, even is your Unbridled Strength is at Lv2 or lv3. So basically, if your unbridled strength is at, let's say the omnistrike, you can still do the uppercut/divekick combo
