If you've ever heard some of the amazing gospel bass players such as Sharay Reed, Justin Raines and Fred Hammond etc...
You'll already know that these guys are seriously amazing.
So, I want to show you a trick that'll help you create bass fills like those guys (and get the 'over the bar line' thing going on)... with just one lick...
Yep - just ONE!
In fact, I'm going to show you how you can get multiple bass fills, by using just one lick.
Oh... and we've also got a VERY special guest in this new video...
He's played with artists such as Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, and many more.
Intrigued?!
I hope so ;)
As always, see you in the shed...
Scott :)

So good! Brilliant to take a simple lick and make it so versatile by starting on various beats. My brain just defaults to the same thing every time. This breaks me out of that cycle. And love Israel Houghton! Thanks for throwing in some gospel jams.

I've noticed something like this starting a lick/riff on a different beat-thing on an old game soundtrack. The bassline just starts an 8th note later every loop, and the first time it does that actually sounds kinda good how it changes the groove :D it's called cobra triangle - dispose of mines if anyone cares

I think Terry's saying that some licks have a way of sounding more complex than they really are. I also think Terry's point is that Bebop is much the same. For me, it's about listening widely, copying, time in the shed and some study. That's how the old jazzers did it. Their KZbin was records.

It sounds awesome and inspires a lot of ideas! Never thought about playing licks in that way before... BUT Question: What if other musicians in the band perceive this as an accident and not on purpose? As in, they think you've missed your cue but you're playing your licks regardless? Is that thinking about it too much or should you just play with better musicians? Haha!
