I just spent some time learning Arabesque No. 1 by Debussy, and I am excited to start this piece as my next hobby project. For people who are struggling, this is the method I have used to learn which I find to be very useful: 1. Break down the song into small pieces (in this case, the first 'piece' can just be the core pattern, since you're doing slight variations of the same thing over and over. Master the core pattern and the variations will be more simple to play as he says.) 2. Within that small piece, practice the right hand slowly until you get all the notes right. 3. Now play it faster until you can get all the notes right. If you keep messing up, go back to step 2. 4. Within the same part, practice the left hand slowly until you get all the notes right. 5. Now play it faster until you get all the notes right, like the right hand. 6. PRACTICE THE LEFT AND RIGHT HAND SEPARATELY until you are very, very comfortable playing both of them alone at the required speed of the song. 7. Now the hardest part, practice slowly playing them together. This will usually take time to get comfortable with. Be patient. 8. Once you are comfortable, play both together at a faster speed. If you mess up, play them slowly again (step 7). 9. Do this until you have mastered the first 'small piece' of the song. Do this for the next small piece, then the next, etc. 10. Once you are very comfortable with each piece, practice playing them together FLUIDLY (not having to pause as you transition between each piece.) Some 'pieces' will be easy, some will be harder. But it is important to be able to play everything correctly and fluidly without awkward pausing. Your goal should be to be able to play the notes smoothly and automatically without having to think much. Once you have done that, then you must practice the 'emotion' of the song, which is difficult to master. *But for now, just worry about getting the notes 100% correct and 100% fluid.* If you feel discouraged, keep at it. Practice is easier if you can find a way to enjoy the journey. Think of how awesome it will feel to master a challenging song! I hope this helps someone. Good luck! :)

Something I love about Beethoven is he is the master at disguising simple sets within a seemingly complicated structure. I was able to learn this and play about to this level in about 2 days (but I have 15 years of piano experience and am very well versed on the keyboard), but even if you are a beginner, as long as you follow these patterns it shouldn’t take to long to learn and understand the progressions!

@@coreykotzen5880 It's not the progressions I have an issue with, it's the sheer speed and dexterity required to play this at 100% tempo. I took piano lessons as a kid and have played casually for years, just never anything crazy fast with arps like this. I've been messing with the first part for the last week and can only play it at like 50% tempo. I'm not sure if I keep trying if I'll be able to get to max speed. And it's not a finger speed issue, I can type a steady 120wpm, but I'm not sure how well that translates to piano.

I watch your videos every day and think that this is one of the better songs you’ve done. A suggestion is Wounderwall by Oasis because it’s beautiful but relatively simple. I play the piano but wish that I had the ability to teach people what I know in such a comprehensive manner. Thank you for your great content 👌.

I started practicing the right hand in February, and can play this section close to full tempo now. I took piano lessons as a kid for a year or two, then didnt play at all from age 13-25 and then started messing around a bit after that. I'm 38 now and wanted to see if I could learn something way above my skill level and this seemed impossible at first. I thought to myself if I can get this at 1/2 speed in a year I'll be happy, but after a week it felt doable. Even though I had a little experience I had zero experience with stuff anywhere close to this tempo or how far it spans across the keys. I will say the one advantage I have is finger speed, I've been typing 100wpm+ since I was 12, I'm not sure how much of a difference that made but had to be some. If you're younger than 18 this should be a cakewalk with some practice, it'll seem hopeless at first but just give it a go.

Helpful, and its true that the musical scale pattern is pretty easy. What makes this very hard is the fingering patterns in both hands during the notes alternating with the repeated G# in the right hand, and the simultaneous movement through the little scale portion in the LH C - C# - D# etc. It would have been helpful if you had said something about your fingering choice for that little section.
