When I learned this game we were allowed to play two of the same number as another way to change the suit. For example if it was diamonds and you had a 4 of diamonds and a 4 of clubs you could play them both with the diamond first, changing the suit to clubs.
@liamwelsh55655 жыл бұрын
This is not how I was taught to play. I’ve been taught to always deals 8 cards to each player hence the name crazy eights as well as when you play a 2 of any suite the next player picks up 2 cards, if you play a 2 of spades the next player picks up 4, and if you play a queen of spades the next player picks up 5. Finally if you play a jack the next player misses their turn. Without those rules the game is really boring and dry
@liamwelsh55655 жыл бұрын
One more thing, you can place multiple cards when you have the same number. So if the suite I need to play if diamonds and I have a 7 of Diamonds and a 7 of hearts, I can place both of them down. Same thing goes with 2’s so if I play 3 2’s the next player needs to pick up 6 cards. If one of those is a 2 of spades the next player needs to pick up 8 because 2 of spades is pick up 4.
@pulykamell4 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of variations of this game; this is a pretty basic version (though I was taught draw 1, and not draw 3.) It's called "Crazy 8"s because eights are wild, of course, not because you get dealt eight cards in (though the eight card version is common. I learned the five-card version from the Hoyle Book.) It's a good version to learn for young players starting out learning card games. You can then add whatever variants you like; there are some where a certain card (like jack or queen) causes the next player to skip a turn, and ace or four (depending on who you're playing with) reverse direction of the gameplay; the pickup extra card variants you mentioned, etc. There's a ton of versions out there. The Pagat page has a slew of different versions that are worth checking out: www.pagat.com/eights/crazy8s.html

Origins. The game first appeared as Eights in the 1930s, and the name Crazy Eights dates to the 1940s, derived from the United States military designation for the discharge of mentally unstable soldiers, Section 8. Merle Robbins (c. 1912 - January 15, 1984) was the inventor of the card game UNO. He was a barber from Reading, Ohio. In 1971 he invented UNO to resolve an argument with his son about the rules of Crazy Eights. Ahem.

The funny thing is we play it a little different - the ace is wild, not the eight. - 2 adds +2 cards to the opponent next in turn. However the ace nullifies the deuce's power. You can stack as many 2s as you want in one turn. If you play the 2 card and the opponent next in turn has a 2... The effects will stuck up and the +4 will move to the next opponent. - 7 is the reverse (yes, uno reverse lol) - 8 is the chance card... meaning you can throw another card of the same suit or another 8 of a different suit - J is the "jump over the next player" card. Meaning the next player will not have that turn until it come back around to them The scoring... we initially give a number of points. Example 500 and then reduce them to 0 according to the points. - ace = 50 - 2 = 20 - 3 ~ 10 = nominal value - J/Q/K = 10 Cards that can't start the pile... any card that has an extra effect on play. I.e. 1,2,7,8 and J The number of draws is limited to 1 if you do not have the the suit of card on the pile. When the cards are finished in the pile, the game can continue by reshuffling the cards, leaving the last played card on the pile as the start card. You can challenge when some one plays their last card by matching the card they have played. E.g. if the won by playing a 9... any one with a 9 can "challenge" and the game will continue. Note this will leave the player with no cards. The player can only pick up a card win it's their turn once again. Note: you can not when with a card that has some special play power I.e. 1,2,7.... Those are the slight changes to this video's crazy eights... I know... CRAZY!! 😅

For those that say "its basically Uno"... Uno was created because the creator got in a argument with his son about the rules of Crazy Eights. As you can see from the comment section people play the game a bit differently. So why not make it simple: colours that even kids know, a simple + by a number, and symbols not confuse which cards meant what. And that was back in 1971

A variation of Crazy Eights included in the 2014 edition of Hoyle Card Games by Encore Software is known as Very Crazy Eights. In that version, the cards are color-coded red, blue, green, and yellow, instead of suits. An 8 in Very Crazy Eights acts as it usually does, but if you play a Jack, the next player has to skip their turn. The red queen forces you to draw 5 cards and lose your turn. If a 2 is played, the next player must either play a 2 or draw 2 cards, but they don't lose a turn. Multiple 2's can be stacked on each other; if this happens, whoever doesn't have a 2 has to draw the grand total of cards in the stack. 4 2's means to draw 8 cards if you do not have a 2. The winner is the first player to play all their cards. If playing for points, the scores are the same as the regular game.

You can combine the rules of Crazy Eights and UNO in the standard deck. (4 suits, 13 ranks with jokers). Suits (spades, clubs, heart, diamond) Aces = Number 1 Numbers 2-10 (except 8s) = Face Value Jacks = Reverse Queens = Skip Kings = +2 Number 8s = Wild Jokers = Wild +4

I lik that you omit "special card" rules (e.g, queens skip, deuces are draw cards that stack), as those to me are not Crazy Eights but a variation of UNO with a standard deck. Also, by NOT reusing the discard pile when the draw deck runs out, hands don't go on and on with no end in sight! But I learned from the books that one draws until one can play or the deck runs out. DO NOT PLAY UNO THIS WAY! It is not in the official rules, and results in very long games.

I've been playing this game all my life, many rules are omitted or different, like 10 means skip turn, Ace means draw 2 and can be diverted by a following Ace making it draw 4, if you play a Jack you need to follow it with a card, if you can't you keep drawing until you find a card, and if it's your turn and you can't play, you can't skip you have to draw once, and finally when a player is done the game is not over until 3 players finish, the last one get's punished according the rank of the remaining cards, without these rules the game is boring

I was taught you deal 8 cards. There's 8 rounds and each round you deal 1 less card. For example, round one everyone gets 8 cards, round 2 everyone gets 7 etc. If a 2 Is placed the next person has to place a 2 or a joker. If they don't have a 2 or a joker they have to draw 2 for the 2 or 4 for the joker. If the next player does have a 2 or a joker it keeps going around the table until a player doesn't have a 2 or a joker and they have to add up the 2's/jokers that were played and draw that many cards. 3 skips, 8 changes suit. When you get down to 1 card you have to say "last card" if you don't and someone catches you, you have to draw a card. The person with the lowest score at the end of the 8 rounds wins.

This game is a very easy game to add variants to - I play with the following rules: - each player is dealt five cards face down initially, regardless of group size - if you are unable to play, you only draw one card, and play passes to the next player, regardless of whether that card is playable - if the draw pile is exhausted, i shuffle the discard pile bar the last card to replenish it - whoever wins the hand would score the total of the other player’s unplayed cards
