Just discovered your channel and I love the attention you pay to Knopfler detail. His songs and playing are incredibly beautiful and it’s really worth playing them as he played them. Thanks for showing us how to do it. Please keep these coming l!

The rhythm part you play on the Strat where you put the fralin pick/strum in, thats where i come unstuck, just can't do it, but thats where the magic is, that what makes so much of Knopflers stuff special, one day fingers crossed i'll get it. PS great channel Phil.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the note. This technique can be frustrating. It sometimes feels like it's never going to click but I found it was a bit like learning to drive - nothing for ages then suddenly it clicked, so keep trying. I have got another video coming up ( I just need to do some editing) that looks at the technique using the intro to the song Communiqué as the basis - that might help. Keep going - one day it will click and then there will be no stopping you! 🎸🎸

Hey Phil, just wanted to say 2 things: 1. I absolutely love your channel and your work. Keep spreading the Knopflersim around the world :D 2. I would suggest you putting the guitar playing right from the start as an intro, because, let's say I as a customer, I want to see if you actually know how to play the requested song first, AND THEN you hook me up with the lesson. For example, JustinGuitar and PavelFomenkov always do this and I'm sure everyone loves that Keep rocking!

Thanks Nidan - really appreciate your comment. And that's a superb idea about the music from the start - I'll be doing that on every video from now on. Thanks again 👍👍🎸

AWESOME!! Can't wait to tackle this one later. You're doing god's work (lol) breaking down Mark Knopfler songs. And your full screen picking hand closeup is very helpful too. I'll certainly be replaying that sections several times.

Wrong!! Must play that with fingers ,not with pick!
@philcaffrey6 ай бұрын
It's a little more nuanced than wrong or right. On the studio version, a pick is used with the acoustic guitar. In early live versions e.g. Rockpalast 1979, MK plays the opening on his Strat with no pick. In slightly later live versions, Hal Lindes took the opening on his Strat but with a pick. So I don't think you can simply say "wrong". The beauty of MKs music is that it lends itself to many different ways of playing/arrangement - often the sign of good writing in my view. Perhaps you might take a slightly less binary view in your comments - I think you'll enjoy the music much more if you open your mind to that. Thanks for being in touch.

@@philcaffrey 1983 in Zagreb he played with his fingers

@dycave was that on acoustic? I suspect it was on Strat. On the acoustic, on the album he uses a pick. That's why in this video, on an acoustic, I use a pick. In 1980, Lancaster, it was also a pick, but on Strat. Both are fine. Not sure what the problem is that you have with this?
