If we both run out of dominos to place down then we count the dots in our hand. If I have 15 dots left then my opponent gets 15 points. If you have 5 dots left then I get 5 points. First player to 150 wins. Basically you want to have the least amount of dots possible because the more dots you have the more points you give your opponent.

I briefly wanted to learn how to play after I was 7 or so and learned that it was a game with rules. Previously I thought they were just for stacking (again, I was like 7). I kind of forgot about it until this afternoon I went into a thrift store and found a set of solid stainless steel dominoes. They're pretty cool so I grabbed them. (they were 5 bucks) soooo...here we are.

That part about the open ends of the points being played being a multiple of 5 is kinda weird and complicated. Way I play is basically you play everything you can until both players are forced to pass or one player lays all tiles down, then just total up the points in each players hands. Whichever player has less points gets the full point value of everything in their opponent's hand

Thank you for making this tutorial for us. I realize that it would be too confusing to include every strategy or variable, but I do have a question for you. When you score the spinner after a play, if you've played on three sides but left the exposed (not against the line), do you still count the unexposed side in the total? For example, the spinner is a 6, we played one end, and both sides, can we still count the unexposed 6 in the total or do the points go away once the bone has been played on both sides of the dividing line? I'm sorry it's so convoluted, I've tried to find my answer online and haven't had any luck and I don't know players.

However, I also have a box of double nine dominoes. I often wonder what double nines are used for. Do you think this game can also be played with double nines?

I'm sure you've long since gotten your answer and forgotten about even asking this question, but the point of the double nines is basically to play a few other games. I think the most popular one is Mexican Train, but there are plenty others that also use the 9s.

You can use double nines, or double 12s or higher for a higher number of players. Dominos can play 8 players, but that would be impossible with 28 tiles.

So for me to be clear on all points can you please answer my question - if there are three ends to the dominoes played already, say one end has a six, one end has a five and your turn leaves the end you add to, have a four, then this adds up to 15 which is a multiple of five then you gain 15 points? Please confirm, my elderly father likes to understand game rules clearly. I’m sorry some of theses comments are impolite, rude or unkind. I think some people should just not make some comments such as Sherine Victoria’s. Some peoples’ behaviour needs improving and it won’t ever happen till some of us start saying asking for it. We Albanians play a more easier way when its 2 vs 2, we play either left or right of the dominos playing field, first player to get rid of all their pieces wins the game, the losing team counts the dominos in there hands and only those points are given to the winners, no rounding the score or giving extra pts, first to 101 wins the game

The only part I'm confused about dominoes is winning. If you're the first person to run out of dominoes and win what difference does it make if you scored the most points. Didn't you already win?

You will only win that "hand" aka "round", at which point everyone adds up their points of the remaining dominoes and awards them to the winner of the round. Then start a new round. Continue until someone gets 150 points.
