This is a really impressive instructional video. The teacher is very clear, slow, and patient in his teaching, and somehow makes what some consider to be one of the best solos in rock history, sound like an intermediate level lesson. And after checking the website, I see that the entire 8 part lesson is only $5.99, which is an incredibly good deal. I'm sold.

William, I purchased your excellent "Eruption" Lesson over the weekend and am very pleased. The level of detail, your approach to instruction and your passion for the music is just right. These qualities translate into excellent instruction and a first rate experience for me as a guitar player interested in learning Eddie Van Halen's technique and music THANK YOU!

***** I've found in the first 50 seconds of the video (first 10 seconds of the song) 2 major mistakes, and a thing/question that I don't know if it's a "mistake" or not. Here goes the question: In the hammer-on-pull-off riff, you say you got to play 5th to 8th to 5th to OPEN in the B string, then 8th in the G, and again 5th to 8th... But I've always played this riff this way: Open E string, the 8th to 5th to 0 in the B string, then 8th in the G string, go back to open E, and so on. So, what do you think? I like it more if I play OPEN E string instead of 5th fret in the B string. Let me know what do you think. Anyways, I like the lesson, you explain it pretty well.
@geoffallard77184 жыл бұрын
Bummer that I'm just seeing this post 5 years later. I know what you're talking about and I agree with you. I play it the same way. It's a lick he uses here, plus also I'm The One and Somebody Get Me Doctor but just up 2 frets in those songs. Also, an open string has a noticeable sound difference so to me that E is the open string. I am going to re-listen about hammering that blue note on the G string though....I've always picked it.
@SuperMozzman4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. Pick open E hammer on the B string at 8, pull off to 5 and pick the G at 8 - and repeat

I noticed a different looking nut on the headstock of your guitar i dont know what its called but i heard it keeps the guitars in tune when using the whammy bar i can i get them for my fender strat or should i buy one of those guitars that have them?
@alexmelton20019 жыл бұрын
They are called Floyd Roses. It depends on what you want to do; I'd recommend having someone set it up for you on your strat. There's no need in buying a whole new guitar. Just google the name, and tons of videos will pop-up to help you.
@TrebleMidBass9 жыл бұрын
Brandon Reyes or if you dont want to waste a huge piece of wood from the body, try Kahler bars.
@richardbruno179 жыл бұрын
padawan007 You are right about the wood part but Kahler bars are not as stable as good Floyd Rose bridges, they get out of tune with this kind of playing .
@TrebleMidBass9 жыл бұрын
Yes this is also true!
@taterlysaladman93778 жыл бұрын
+justbrandonll Get a guitar that was made with the floyd rose at the factory. It's the only way to get one properly set up. They do a million of them and throw out the parts that split or don't fit right, your hired luthier doesn't have that luxury. Strats and Les Pauls and even the korean PRS now come with floyd rose from the factory. If someone had installed a floyd rose other than the factory I wouldn't buy it.

Christian Mortenson How about a cranked Marshall JVM 410HJS? It works for me. If you are interested in a excellent Van Halen in a box check out the Wampler Pedals Pinnacle or Pinnacle Deluxe(you play it in front of your amp through the clean channel and it is magic.) Great pedals for the Brown sound. Don't forget the MXR EVH117 Flanger.
