Dear Sarah, I have received your album here in Portugal and I really like it and enjoy the kind words you wrote for me. Of course, I prefer the renaissance pieces ( I have some difficulties with modern music...…...maybe is it just I don´t understand it well...…) but I think it is a very good album. Thanks too for your very interesting KZbin channel. It is not easy to have good informations about recorder but you do the job perfectly and also add humour. It is perfect

One of the first songs I learned to play by heart. If I walk by and pick up my alto, Für Elise is most likely what you'll hear. The phrase after the first repeat is my favorite.
@LifeinLancashire Жыл бұрын
When I returned to the piano 6 months ago after a break of 58 years, Für Elise was the first piece of music that I decided I wanted to play. Fortunately, I purchased a digital piano, so my neighbour didn't have to hear me practise the piece over and over again. Took me a while (because I also had to teach myself to read music again), and I was really chuffed when I could play the entire piece from memory (thankfully my old grey cells do still retain info!) without any errors. As I've now also taken up the recorder again, it will be interesting to see how long it will take me to learn to play Für Elise on the recorder........though I guess it won't be great for my neighbour having to listen to the incessant noise of the recorder🤣

I bought my recorders recently. I just decided to play recorder again after 15 years of not playing it. I played it in Grade 4 and 6.

G-Sharp named in Germany: GIS. Sometimes, I give names to difficult notes to be at ease with them (its a good working psychological trick for me). GIS is named "Gisberth", and now we are friends. 😂

It is normally played on the piano so you get the like deeper ones which makes it better

It might be because she is doing a lot of talking in between playing the sections. This could lead to the recorder cooling down, which cound lower the recorder, perhaps differently on different notes.
@doginabox96213 жыл бұрын
I know I’m late but recorders come in many different pitches. So maybe her recorder is pitched to sound lower than the ‘normal’ pitch

I think this video is part of a series, 'Recorder Basics'. She has a video on how to play every note on the Soprano and Alto recorder, in which she taught the fingering of the notes.

At the end of If 6 Was 9 by the Jimi Hendrix Experience there is a recorder part with echo. A long time ago, I played a wooden flute through a Multivox MX-201 and it sounded a lot like the recorder part on If 6 Was 9. Can you show us how to play that part?

Sarah, getting past the part where the list price of the two instruments you mention is almost $2000 could we go over the things that happen over the notes, the plus signs, mordents, etc.and help us (me) figure out which notes to play. Or just send us to some references . Thanks

Great tutorial, as usual. And many thanks for all your wonderful videos. As a suggestion for a future play along, I would love it if you would do the opening of Concerning Hobbits (aka The Shire Theme) from the Lord of the Rings movies. Unless my ears deceive me, I believe that actually is a recorder playing on the soundtrack.

I would love to learn that.

How do you tell that a recorder is played in a soundtrack? Is it a matter of ear training? I've been listening to a lot of OSTs recently and I've discovered many tracks which seem to feature recorders, but I can't be so sure unless I ask the composers directly?

The idea of playing this piece on a monophonic instrument is strange to me. As I see it, the arpeggios in the right hand of the piano original are continuations of the arpeggios that start in the left, rather than cleaving cleanly into "the melody" while the ones in the left hand are accompaniment.

As someone who used to play piano, my first thought at reading the title of the video was "WHY?" xD So now I'm wondering if there's an equivalent piece for the recorder... you know, something everyone recognises and every recorder player goes "WHY" when non-musical people ask you to play it :)
