I must admit this kind of Tarot/tarok is especially fun and adictive. At first I was disappointed you play alone (as the "attacker"), but the game is constructed in such a way that it's not a problem. It's similar in mechanics to bridge but completly different in strategy what is nice.

This was a great video! Very clear and easy to understand! I am wondering what happens if more than one player bids to be the taker, how is it determined?
@aaronrichard5647
@aaronrichard5647 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Great question - basically, if someone before you has already bid "Guard", you need to bid something higher (either "Guard Without" or "Guard Against"). You can't bid the same as what someone else already has. There's only one round of bidding, so once you've been outbid, you can't put in another. For that reason, some players will maybe take a bit more of a risk and bid something higher to stop anyone else getting to be taker.

6:59 - this is a very interesting and distinctive trait of the game, compared to for instance bridge. In bridge when you have weak hand you need to obtain lower result. When you have strong hand you need to obtain higher result. In French tarot it's reversed what causes you passes a lot more often than in bridge.

I like the Danish name for the 1, 21, and Fool: the Three Matadors (from Matto=the Fool). :)
@learntarotcardgames54
@learntarotcardgames54 3 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, but I don't think they're called "Matadors" because of il matto... "Matador" is "the killer". This name is used in a lot of card games (including non-Tarot games like Skat if you're talking about it in English) for the highest trumps.

Hi Reggie, yep - I'm in Melbourne. I picked up my French Tarot deck on eBay, from a seller in Brisbane. Was about $20 from memory. You could also find it from Amazon, although a little more for international postage. But at any rate, you can usually find it online - search for "Jeu de Tarot", makers include Fournier and France Cartes. Hope that helps!

Great question! The person who takes the trick gives you the Excuse back, in exchange for any 1/2 point card. So it evens out.

@@arkady714 Usually at the end of that trick in my experience. You swap them a pip card or one of the trumps besides the 1 or 21.
@learntarotcardgames54
@learntarotcardgames54 3 жыл бұрын
@@arkady714 There's an exception to that though - you lose the Excuse by playing it to the last trick (usually). BUT there is also one way to *win* a trick with the Excuse (technically) - if you are shooting for Slam but also hold the Excuse, and you've won every trick so far up to the second last one, you can lead the Excuse to the final trick and win - but only in that specific circumstance.

Seems like a lot of fun, but I think the bidding and calculating the scores is a little hard to understand. Is there any version of tarot games that is just simply playing a round and adding up the scores without bidding and complicated calculations?
@learntarotcardgames54
@learntarotcardgames54 3 күн бұрын
Yes, there are tarot games where card points are counted singularly, and also ones without bidding. The bidding isn't too bad once you've played enough hands to know what a strong-ish hand looks like, but then I'm comparing with games like Königrufen that have a much crazier list of bids available :) Have a look through the rest of my channel for the variations that exist around Europe.
