I’m an adult beginner, I grew up watching my mom, a professional pianist, play from this book all the time and crush it, so beautiful. Now that I’m looking at it, it’s absolutely daunting. Thanks for your video, very helpful.

Thank you for sharing the challenges regarding the use of Real\Fake books. To piggy-back off what you shared, I heard Dexter Gordon say in an interview, "when choosing [sic] a song, learn the lyrics..."
@Jazzmentl
@Jazzmentl Жыл бұрын
Yes. I would agree with Dexter Gordon. Because it may help the interpreter of the song find the intended emotion of the song. The idea is to feel something when you are playing it. Or make your audience feel something. Music in a nutshell makes people feel. If a song/performance achieves that, then the interpreter has achieved the big goal..they connected with the listener.

At 4:37 why do you that that c7 is with a sharp 5 ? You also said that F-7 can be with a 9th or 11th. As a beginner, how would I decide if a chord should be played as written, or with some ajustements?
@itshoneydrip
@itshoneydrip 5 ай бұрын
Anytime a chord is labelled with a “+” symbol it’s augmented. In bar 1, it is a C+7. You can also add extensions (9,11,13) to any minor, major or Dom 7 chord, provided you do so tastefully and purposefully within the context of the song’s arrangement, with good voice leading and use of harmonic texture, rhythm etc. in your performance.
