Hello everyone, Eugene here. The only reason I learned to play was so that I could call my daughter on her 27th birthday and play Happy Birthday to her over the phone like her grandpa Lanzl (my dad) had done until he died. I taught my self how to do it. The only difference I see between what I do and did and Kerin, is that I thought in syllables of the song rather than the names of the notes. Heck, I still don't know or care to know the names of the notes. Hap-py-Birth-day-to-you-hap-py-birth-day-to-you and so on. I saved myself the trouble of having to learn what the names of the notes were. Oh and our dear beloved teacher left out the last part of the song; "and many more". Keep playing and have fun. Kerin Gedge you are truly beloved and blessed.

Maybe not everyone caught onto your remark that using a C harmonica wasn't really necessary. Due to the way diatonic harmonicas are designed that blow/draw sequence works for any harmonica in any key. Your playing has very clear single notes - I wish I could be that precise! The only minor suggestion I have is that when writing down the notes, perhaps the single high G (G5) could somehow be distinguished from the lower G4. Maybe indicate G and G'.

Yeah not many people listen properly! I get a lot of comments from people with harmonicas in different keys saying, "but mine doesn't sound like yours" to which I say, just turn the volume down and follow the arrows! Thanks for the suggestion... to be honest most people ask me to scrap the notation altogether and just replace it with TAB, but I think knowing the notes is important if you want to be a serious musician! The main reason I don't indicate the differences between a low note and the same note but higher is because most of the songs I do are so well known that I assume people will just already know :p

I think different harmonica players will probably all have their own preferences, but a ten holed diatonic harmonica is a good place to start... my favourite so far is the Hohner Marine Band....

What do you mean? If yours doesn't have numbers the lowest note will be 1, the hole after that is 2 and so on

In 3. GGG is GG (hole 6) Gb(hole 9). In 4. it says breathe in through 9 twice and arrow image shows blowing in through 9 twice. Go by the audio & notes, and not the arrow image

From what you've written I think you are trying to say that in phrase 3 blowing into 6&6 makes "g" (if your harmonica is in the key of c) but blowing into 9 produces an "f"... Is that what you mean? Because blowing into 9 on a ten holed harmonica like mine produces the g an octave higher than the g produced by blowing into 6, which are the correct notes for this phrase in Happy Birthday...
