Thank you, Vidas, for demonstrating the octatonic mode. I have heard this sound many times, but never really known or stopped to look into what it is I am listening to. I will have some fun attempting this.

A really fascinating presentation and tutorial, Vidas: thank you. For an amateur player and 'composer' like me with no formal musical training at all, this was most illuminating and a fabulously illustrated session explaining the different modes. It is quite empowering when you recognise sounds heard in music and now know more about how they work and what they are called. I love being able to sit at the keyboard and just letting my fingers idly explore what sounds can be created - but now I have more appreciation of the mathematics in terms of tones and half tones that create harmony and melody in all the modes. You are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to music theory and I am sure many of those who have viewed this presentation will have learned a great deal. Kudos to you!

Hello Vidas, I don't know much about music theory, and I had heard the term "mode" but had no idea what it meant. I really enjoyed your presentation and listening to the beautiful music you played. Some of the modes in which you played reminded me of the sounds I might hear in the soundtrack of a motion picture (I'm guessing those composers use specific modes intentionally), and I even heard a few that had aspects of American jazz. Either way, it was fascinating and I really, really enjoyed it. Thank you!

You were talking about the 6 tone “Augmented mode”. That is the Whole Tone Scale is it not?. Or in other words : “The first mode of limited transposition” (Messiaen). Sounds beautifull with the alternating augmented triads in the left hand!
