Agreed. I love this system, but I think I was overcomplicateing the rules and thinking of this game like other TTRPG's and videogames.

The basic Ironsworn/Starforge system is very easy to learn. Once you get the basic Strong/Weak/Miss mechanic, the progress tracker and the Oracle, it's actually quite intuitive. But I cannot recommend enough is The Delve rules. This really expands the game out, and not just for dungeons. One thing I've grown to really enjoy is modding the rules to suit my own game, and it's fun making your own Delves and Oracles to include basic travelling across different terrain, or cities and settlement exploration. In fact, a lot of my sessions have been pretty much an openworld style play, with no quests or vows; just setting off on a wander and seeing what happens.

I wish I would've found this when I started Ironsworn. This really simply and plainly lays it out. I've been really struggling with the momentum system, it's not too well explained in the rule book. This was perfect.

I just had my first solo RPG experience with Troves, and it was an absolute blast, so I'm tempted to try Ironsworn next. I just need to find the best way to print out the entire handbook(I prefer having a physical copy over looking through a PDF on my phone or laptop).
@thebadspot6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! There is a Play Kit with the essentials that you can print. That's what I went with when I first started. I prefer print too, but I was just using the pdf to look up the odd thing once I got going. Good luck!

Nicely done. I have been playing (solo & remote co-op) since well before the before-times & have been looking forward to Starforged. And now I must begin a Starforged game immediately. The Delta variant and your video has reminded me I need a Glowcat companion as soon as possible.

Thank you Matt for this excellent and concise summary of how to play Ironsworn. I have been pouring over the rulebook recently, itching to dive in and give it a try, but was struggling to condense all 200+ pages into something I could keep in my head for my first session. This video was exactly the summary I needed to clarify all those little rules.

Thank you, this is a very helpful overview of the game mechanics. I am just starting to acquaint myself with Starforged, and aside from printing out the asset cards, my only familiarity comes from reading and viewing reports of other people's sessions.

@@thebadspot Thanks, learning a _ton_ from your sessions. I'm at the point now where I follow what's developing and I know what kind of moves would be appropriate for a given situation (and often what stat) and many times I've found myself making the same story choices that you do. I don't know why I waited this long to get involved in this game but I have you to thank for kindling my interest.

Isn't there gap in the tracking bar? Example, I start journey to find treasure. In a story character moved cities, forest etc... anyway still did not find it. Got checked [X][X] 2 of 10 squares. But as player I decided to roll the challenge - and voila passed the test. Does it mean... my character is rewarded with treasure (from rules point view) even though he did not find it via story telling? // I am sorry for my English.
@thebadspot2 жыл бұрын
If you already established you didn’t find the treasure, you probably shouldn’t have rolled to say you did. And you’re not going to roll double 1s every time, so maybe try and fill out more boxes and explore your story further! Thanks for watching!

idk what it is, maybe its for the sake of marketing and standing out, maybe its so players dont get their internal wires crossed with other TTRPGs when playing, maybe its because they thought being straightforward was boring, but none of those reasons suffice for me. i dislike it a lot when TTRPGs choose unintuitive names for their core stats. yeah i'll get over it when i get used to the rules, but it feels like a road bump that doesn't need to exist, you feel me?

I dunno. it's pretty easy to intuit as to what a core stat means in this game. In fact, it's even less confusing than the classic INT/WIS divide that trip up so many players & GMs through the ages. It feels very clean and easy to apply based on what you're about to do in your action.

Regarding the stat array: did you not use 4, 3, 3, 2, 2 in your Play?
@thebadspot3 жыл бұрын
I absolutely do. But I thought I’d show the default array in this video as I think it’s what most people will end up using and I didn’t want to confuse any newcomers.
@LD-gc4qg3 жыл бұрын
@@thebadspot understood, I am using the higher array as well :) thanks for your show!

It’s definitely more forgiving. I think if I went with the standard array I’d have a very different campaign. In that Archer would absolutely be dead by now.
