I decided to look for a comprehensive guide after winning every hand of a game in Final Fantasy XIV and not even fully understanding how lucky I'd been. I can now explain that I won exclusively with closed melds, once with a quad, sometimes after I or my opponents had called richii, and once after entering furiten, which I had never seen before and did not understand. So I guess what I'm trying to say is thanks, I definitely learned a lot and I'm not even halfway through the video! I doubt I'll be this lucky once I make it out of the "novice" matchmaking though, so I'll keep watching.

Amazing guide! Just a couple of notes: In most rulesets, you do NOT place Honba after a Chombo, the hand is considered to have never happened at all. Menzenchin Tsumohou is almost always referred to as Menzen Tsumo Most rulesets allow for a certain number of live tile walls to be accidentally revealed without it counting as chombo, but revealing the dead wall or someone else's hand is an immediate chombo.

Fantastic video! Probably the best mahjong tutorial out there! Gonna make something clear tho, the characters aren’t kanji, they’re a weird mix of simplified and traditional mandarin (I have no idea why, maybe has to do with context): 1-4 being simplified, 5 being traditional, and 6-9 being simplified. The wan/man character on the bottom is a traditional mandarin character for the ten thousands value. This is also why each number’s japanese pronunciation is closer to the mandarin pronunciations rather than the current japanese pronunciations But, ofc, this doesn’t matter. Just me nitpicking

Thank you for this. I saw it a long time ago. It took me many days to go over the whole video a little at a time, but it was enough to get me playing on an app. I wonder if I'll ever be fast enough to play in person.

Akagi is wild I watched this and thought I knew how to play and then realized that show assumes you have a good base knowledge of the game and then everyone starts cheating in a million different ways and just like ooof

Question to the Producer: Do you mind if I use screenshots of this video as teaching tools, to be shared with other players digitally or in print?
