Awesome lesson. Never thought I’d be playing Kashmir in standard tuning! Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much! It's a neat little way to make it work if you're playing a gig and all you've got is standard tuning. Glad you liked it!

FYI: The scales/modes under the last section is G Dorian (G, A, Bb, C, D, E, F) to A Byzantine scale (A, A#, C#, D, E, F, G#). The magic is in the sublime tension of that Byzantine scale: the C# makes it a major chord, but the flatted 2nd (A#) and flatted sixth (F) make it sound Middle Eastern rather than just syrupy sweet. Also, the way the G Dorian (which is played over G minor chord because the Dorian mode features a flatted 3rd) resolves to the major chord a full step up (A major) creates an emotional lift. It’s beautiful. Thank you for helping me cheat my way to playing “Kashmir” in standard tuning. One never knows when that will come in handy!

My pleasure and I love your extra analysis. Thank you! Your choice of words is perfect. It truly is "sublime" tension!

You sir, are a star. I've never quite got that D climb down right but you've shown me -thank you. I do play the G with an open 3rd string - I think it chimes better. Great lesson -subscribed.

At 11:07 it's 3-2-0 on the D string then 0-2 on the A string followed by the open D string. (as opposed to 1-2 on the A string). Otherwise it sounds spot on. Jimmy Page is probably kicking himself for not realizing that he didn't need to use an alternate tuning for this song.

Great lesson! However, the 5th note of the D harmonic minor (A) starts (I believe) a double harmonic major scale, not a Mixolydian. It has that great 3 fret gap from the flat 2nd, the Bb, which ends up providing 3 adjacent seconds, i.e., A,Bb,... C#,D, E,F, G, and back to A. Perhaps it's an altered Locrian. Very exotic. I like your exact instructions. I can sort of do the rhythm by feel, but when I try to count it out, I lose it.

Gain 5 Bass 7 Middle 4 Treble 8 Reverb 6

If my memory is correct, I believe I used just gain and reverb. Relatively high gain, like classic rock or 80's metal. a good amount of Reverb as well. I hope this helps!

Cannot thank you enough. Always wanted to learn this but get disheartened and give up due to nerve damage stopping me from doing the 2 to 5th stretch. Again thanks 🙏🏼

Greatjob in E standard... but the distortion is too sharp almost aggravating
@Musilesson8 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Fair assessment on the distortion. I believe these pickups are the 490 set. Their distortion is a little shrill for a 70's rock song. My SG standard with '57 classics sounds way better. Thanks for watching!
