Reposting this video! The first one had some sound quality issues, and I care too much about you guys to let that stand :)

What about putting it in the lesson playlist?

I am a self taught player out of the Cape Breton tradition. This was the first tune I learned outside of A Maj or D. I learned purely by ear. Lots of nice E minor tunes. "Crossing to Ireland" is another dandy for beginners. And of course "Tarbolten Lodge " which is more difficult.

Lovely haunting tune, if I ever had doubts they gone! Fairies must be real to warrant their King deserving such a tune. 🧚‍♀🤴🧚

Oh yeah, I used to play this on penny whistle! It was my main jam :) I absolutely need to learn this now on violin, since that's my instrument these days !!! Thank you!!!!

Hey Liz - nice work! Your collection of lessons are such a gift! I just wanted to make one argument about the time signature for reels- yes they are often written in 4 but they are danced in 2! So I like to teach them as being in cut time, rather than common. It can be helpful to teach them in 4 but eventually they are felt in 2 and I find that's an important point to share with my students. Keep up the good work!

Liz, I love this one so much I became a Patreon subscriber! I am trying to take lessons again after having stopped playing for years (long story), and I was able to start playing your "King of the Fairies" pretty quick, though I need to practice alot so it will sound good. I noticed that you are playing a LOT of double stops in this video that are not in the sheet music. I love your version!

My poor heart, almost makes me want to repair my 3/4 violin. Then I remember my lobster claw hands-- better suited for pulling lobster crates up from the deep than heavenly music from on high. Thank you for keeping a good song alive. :D

Obviously I'm biased but I totally think you should break out that old violin and play some tunes!

Is all of that syncopation or strong accents away from beat one something new or old to Irish music?

Does anyone have any recommendations on bows? I snapped my £200 bow last year. It was a decent one but too heavy for me anyway. I'd rather have sold it than step on it, but... there you go. Is it wise to order bows online? (I can send them back if I don't like em right?) It's easier for me to order online. So if I did, what do you recommend? Budget £100-225

Wish I had some good advice for you! I usually go to a violin repair fellow I know, who lets me try a whole bunch of used bows. I just pick whatever sounds good to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love the video and the tune. It didn’t take me long to learn it at all. The only thing I wish you hadn’t said in the video was your statement about sugarcoating. As a retired teacher, I know that statements like that will either annoy experienced players because you are making the tune sound harder than it is or it will intimidate inexperienced ones and perhaps they won’t even try it. I honestly don’t think the statement about sugarcoating was necessary but I love all of your fiddle videos and they have helped me a lot. I also love your playing style.

She should make it clear that she is only playing the melody line and using a loop.
