This is not how I play it but I don't think Jimmy ever played it the same way twice so definitely open to interpretation haha. If you use your pinky to bar the strings on the 7th fret during the vocal section it lets you keep the D shape on your middle index and ring without the quick changes. Such a fun and easy song to play as far as Zeppelin goes. Solo is simple yet sounds amazing and the D-G-A melody during the chorus is such a classic.

Love that you mentioned the slight bends and vibrato. Jimmy slurs every note like that, and it is such an integral part of his tone!

This riff has been playing all night in my head, so thought I might as well learn it. Excellent easy tutorial. Will be playing it all night after work as well.

Wow! I can’t believe I found this. I used to play this song many,many years ago and had forgotten where to even play the first note. Thank you for bringing this song on your channel. Great lesson and setup!!!

You are the only one I’ve seen that plays the octave E on the fifth string 7th fret. Besides Jimmy Page, that is! 😎I just watched a few live versions to confirm. Good catch. 😀

Good tutorial. I think he plays the octave on the second fret of the D string instead of sliding to the seventh on the A string. But it sounds good that way too.

You're playing it correctly, I think, but it's misleading and confusing to call that fingering a "D major shape but not a D major". Yes, the shape is similar, but functionally and sound-wise it has nothing to do with D major. You probably know that it's a partial A7 chord, so you might as well call it that.
@dannyh82886 жыл бұрын
But for beginners like me calling it a "D major cord shape" really helps, I understood it was not a D chord, but rather the finger shape that I must have to make a D that I apply elsewhere. You guys that are great at this stuff need to understand some of us out here (like me) SUCK at this and that these lessons are aimed at us.
@robrippen3 жыл бұрын
Not confusing really when she says shape, actually it's easier. But I play it with 2 strings on the 3rd and 4th string which round about is the same thing just much easier with less movement and sounds better.
