Houses just lead to smart players never buying hotels. Since players have to build houses first, and there are a limited number of houses, you can lock other players out of building entirely by causing a housing shortage. There are 32 houses in monopoly, and you can have 4 per property after getting the color set. By maxing out one set, you've secured between 1/4th and 3/8th of the available houses. If you max out 6 properties, you've secured all the houses, and no one else can build until you upgrade to hotels. Omitting houses is probably Hasbro's way of working around this part of the game.

The least interesting part of this game: The fake cash, it doesn't seem like it adds anything to the game, except making transactions probability based. The most interesting part of this game: How they do the counting at the end, seems much simpler to base it off of rent value. Now I do wish that there was a way for you to try to "cheat" the game by purposefully obtaining the "fake" cash, but it doesn't seem like there's a good mechanism for doing that.

I think simplest one is to simulate it using image editors. Make a dense stripe patterns consisting of black and white on top layer, and use difference blending on it. This way, for each white stripes on top layer, it will invert the color of bottom layer. It might be complicated for this game to reverse-engineer, but the main idea is the same.

It seems like all the decoding thing does is add a bit of novelty and slows down the game, while having the mechanical equivalent of choosing to roll a die any time someone does something for a chance to steal their stuff. I guess if you could keep track what money is fake, then you can easily steal it. but this is made somewhat moot by money being deposited at the bottom of the bank, not the top.

Also, if need more funds, sell properties from the face value, or other player for agreed upon price. If no more money but you sell all properties, then it’s bankrupt. Give all properties you had, and one chance card you had and get out of jail free card from community chest if you had one. If owe to bank, return it to the bottom of their corresponding deck and place all properties in their corresponding space next to the board. If all other players go bankrupt, then the last player remain, wins

Can you call fake on 500 or is a player allowed to get change first? For eg If you only have a 500 and land on Old Kent Road for 60 and decide to buy it, someone calls fake on your 500 and it is fake, you are in effect paying 560 for the cheapest property? If that makes sense? Brutal if so

i've bought this one thinking it would be more interesting, but i have to admit, it's super easy to know if one bill is fake or not without the decoder, so this makes useless the whole decoder thing and just works like classic monopoly. Bills should have had better patterns

It’s kind of boring. Like he doesn’t really play into the theme that it’s built around. I feel like there’s so many more in cooler ways you could try and implement counterfeit and fake money as a concept into a monopoly game.

Ye it's just a shitty gimmick. The fact that you yourself dont know if the money you use is counterfeit or not just makes it boring. A simple change that would make it more interesting would be the following. Have a counterfeit and a real money pile. Whenever you collect money from the bank, either collect the listed amount of real money or twice the amount if counterfeit money. This adds an actual choice to the game. If you always collect counterfeit money you will be inspected alot when buying things will lose. But if you only take real money you may end up poorer than your nefarious opponents. Of course the problem with this variant would be sorting all the money after the game is done.

@@Noschool100 I also realised this variation makes high valued Bills worse. No one is gonna spend their 2 inspects to look at a 10 becouse if it's fake the opponent only loses 10. Inspecting a big 500 bill though can be painful. So hasbro has somehow managed to just make an even worse game of an already shitty game.

You flip over your decoder chip when you examine something. When do you flip it back? Or do you only get to do it twice? It seems to me that making some of the Chance cards fake is a waste, because eventually players will learn which ones are fake. At least the bills are generic. I'm not impressed with this one. It just needlessly complicates things.

There is no strategy with real and fake money since you don't know what is real or fake and there is no risk if anyone incorrectly calls you out. It's basically just a coin flip everytime you try to pay which costs you double.

Wouldnt buy. Sound like a fun change to the classic game, but the execution is bad. I can literally look at the pattern and my brain will complete the image without the "decoder". Even if you couldnt, you could just remember the change in the pattern as there is only one change. As each player, who can be checked could know which of their bills is fake, it makes the rules obsolete in every situation except when there is only one bill you have to use. Easy fix: Make a UV print and include a UV lamp. Additional rule: After each transaction, the two parties have to shuffle their bill stacks.
