@@jacobc8036 Yeah, it was definitely an 'oof!' when he mentioned that. But like he said, they're pretty cheap (mine was only 14 bucks, and I believe that included shipping) and they at least can get you started as a way to learn if you even like the instrument. If you decide you like playing, you can always just put the cheapo one up on a book shelf as a decoration and buy a better one. Remember, the best instrument is the one you actually have in your hands. If its good enough to practice with, then it's good enough to get started.

Hi, David. I really appreciate the new series, and I will recommend it to anyone who is looking for video tutorials to get started on the ocarina. I also wanted to clarify something about the beginner models, though. The Noble plastic ocarina and the Night by Noble plastic ocarina are actually two different models. The one you have in the video is the Noble plastic. They do look similar and the only obvious difference (other than the name on the outside) is that the Noble plastic has Japanese subholes like Noble ocarinas, while the Night by Noble has Taiwanese subholes like Night ocarinas (this is a bit ironic since Night is a Japanese ocarina company and Noble is Korean). Whether there is anything different about the tone, breath curve, etc. I don't know because I've never actually seen a copy of the Noble plastic in real life, only pictures and videos. Of course both ocarinas are manufactured by Noble. The Night by Noble is a joint project between the two companies (both ocarinas include Noble's trademark shaped tip).

First time I am actually hearing about it. Looked interesting and searched KZbin on how it’s played and saw your video. Beautifully explained and guided and shall surely order one now itself , but before that I really wanted to thank you heaps as I am looking forward to heal myself with music. Your information is great and I want to thank you for making this series! I am a complete noob just getting one of these after about 20 years of wanting to (My Knight by Noble is coming in a couple hours, bought it based on your recommendation in another vid and starting to learn today!). One constructive suggestion though is slow down a little. I was having a hard time following what you were saying. I slowed the speed of the video to 75% to a more conversational speed. I make that suggestion to a lot of content creators because many tend to go too fast and it makes it difficult or overwhelming when trying to learn things.

I just got into ocarina last year when I watched Gary Cooper in the the 1941 film Meet John Doe. In this film Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan play two ocarina and harmonica duets. So I purchased an Ocarina Winds 12 hole ceramic alto c, but it just kind of sat around. I have played many folk flutes over the decades, but ocarina seems to perplex me, so I look forward to these tutorials, but in the last month I decided I am going to learn this one. My first love for this little instrument was with the 1968 Disney film Pablo and the Dancing Chihuahua I saw way back in the day when I was a little kid.

I must say that you are an excellent teacher. I've followed your tutorial series up to the 3rd one thus far and have enjoyed it immensely. I noticed that you push your students to do something a little more difficult each time but you balance it out with either the practice pieces being slightly more difficult and the final song being a little simpler than the practice pieces or vice versa. Well thought out. Being able to pause the video whilst I practice, practice, practice before proceeding further is certainly a plus! Lol! And I don't have to worry about the teacher becoming impatient! Lol! (I'm a little slow nowadays.) I, personally, decided to review over the first three lessons before proceeding further which just seemed to reinforce the whole learning experience. I'm an X-teacher myself but a different genre (Flamenco Dancer/Teacher for 23 years - so, yeah, I'm no spring chicken! Lol!) so I know what I'm talking about. I just wanted to put the thumbs up for you and let people out there know how good you really are. You deserve it! Plus I've subscribed which is unusual for me! Lol! All the best and stay safe! Funny thing, this video was released around the time I picked up my ocarina. It was 2019 and my friends and I were going to our yearly convention ACEN. I had always wondered about the random ocarina playing I'd hear so I decided to follow it and found a vendor selling them. On a whim I picked one up, and it proceeded to collect dust. I've always been kind of shy about practicing things like this around people and that was about the time my friend had started taking lessons from home for college. So I couldn't subject him to my tooting, you know? Flash forward two years later and I'm less shy about it now. I'm looking forward to just being able to play an instrument, really. I've always envied people who could make music, but never gave it a try for multiple reasons.

Hello, I have 2 questions! 1. Why do you recommend only plastic ones for starters? Is it a price thing or a "don't drop a ceramic one" thing or tuning? 2. The 3 ocarinas you mentionned cost about 30 EUR in France, but I see some that cost 15-20 EUR (yes, mostly chinese zelda ocarinas but also "non zelda" ones). And they are ceramics. Those ones are kinda crappy? Thanks!
@rosen_venus4 жыл бұрын
Not him, but here's what I've found in my researching: Plastic ones don't sound quite as good as ceramics. But they are cheaper and harder to break, so it's better to not spend somewhere in the ballpark of 50 USD on an instrument only to find you don't like it or you break it (since holding it properly is a skill in of itself). You can find decent plastic ocarinas of course, there's nothing wrong with using them. Tuning shouldn't be an issue, though I've heard sometimes the plastic ones are harder to breathe into/get an accurate pitch. Any cheap ceramic ocarinas you find are most likely trash. Any reputable site that sells ocarinas usually lists them, again, in the 50 USD range for a 12 hole, might be lower for 6 hole. Most sites I'm seeing with low prices like that are eBay, Walmart, and notorious scam sites like Wish. You've probably made a decision by now but hope this helps.

For getting used to ceramic ones and For the dont drop it until you get used to holding ocarinas
@michaelshort23882 жыл бұрын
@@rosen_venus to add to this, plastic ones are usually made with a mold, which means the finger holes etc are in the perfect spot, Cheaper ceramic ones may not have been made with those holes being the same size or in the right position making the instrument out of tune. Having one that you know is tuned correctly helps you to know if you're out of tune because of technique or poor instrument quality.

I'm just going to repeat what I said on the other video, Re european shipping. I know david touched on it in the video itself but I think it bears repeating: From my experience, the Focalink definitely is most accessible in Europe. I'd seen the noble, and never heard of the STL plastic, but I bought the Focalink from Thomann and had it shipped from Germany. It's important to note that if you're shipping into the EU from outside it, you'll have to pay import VAT, plus likely a handling fee of about 8-12 EUR. I know it's that way in the UK at least and I imagine other countries are the same. If you buy from within the EU, all you have to worry about is the actual shipping fee. While I'd have liked a Night by Noble myself, It would have cost in the region of €45-€50 to import one to the uk, where the focalink only came to about €28.

I actually bought two ocarinas, one just to use it as a prop and one to use it. The one was this zelda ocarina and the other one is bought from thomann. The thomann one is actually made from Johann Rotter (three years ago) and it is a very good one.

I'm gonna be honest, I just got an ocarina because of the loz "wow shocker" you must be thinking but I genuinely want to learn how to play and knowing I got the only one that sucks really is a yikes, I'll make sure to get on of the ones you recommended in a few months but for now I gotta work with what I got.

Hey Mr. Ramos! Thank you so much for this tutorial videis, it really helps me lot, but can I ask you something?... Do you know any Christian song with Ocarina music sheet for free? Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy your digital book right now but I really want to learn so that I can use it in our church... Once again thank you so much, your response is highly appreciated God Bless and more powers sir!!!

I recently ordered a Ceramic Ocarina for 25 dollars on eBay, and it comes from a highly rated seller, so hopefully the tone and tune is good on it😅

As someone totally new to ocarinas, are the fingers the same between C alto ocarinas and C bass ocarinas? I ask, because I love the sound of lower pitched flutes. If these are affordable but effective ways to dip my feet into the waters of ocarina flutes, while still developing my knowledge set for bass ocarinas, it would be awesome. I play low brass, but for things like drum circles and playing with guitar players, I would love a lower flute sound to bring to the table. So something that has a relaxed, non-technical embouchure (unlike concert band flutes), that won't compromise my brass embouchure is very appealing. Just curious your thoughts on those topics.

90% of the comments are people who bought a cheap Zelda ocarina. I’m guilty as well

This was super helpful :D I am picking up Ocarina and certainly needed the help :D I been practicing how to move my fingers up and down the scales and getting a feel about how much air I need to push for most of the notes c:
