I used a bitrate of 150mbps in Virtual Desktop which is the max setting right now and had a latency of 22-30ms in the Virtual Desktop streamer app. This video was mainly aimed at beginners without getting too technical. I love my Quest 2! Once I had setup Virtual Desktop to stream PCVR from my Gaming PC to the Quest 2, I literally stopped using my Valve Index completely to the point where I got rid of it. As good as the Index is (And it is freaking amazing), for me the freedom of wireless VR and the increase in resolution at 90Hz just makes the Quest 2 (IMO) the overall best PCVR headset (As long as you can convince yourself not to care about the Facebook limitation). Would highly recommend people spend the $20/$15 on Virtual Desktop first before getting the Oculus Link cable if they want to play PCVR on their Quest 2, mainly because if it works great for you then you not only save quite a fair bit of money but you also get wireless VR for $20/£15 on top of the Quest 2's price which for me is amazing!

The official Oculus cable is pretty great, it is very flexible and light and has, I believe, the full 10Gbps speed. Maybe with the Quest 2 they actually considering that when making it, because with that much bandwidth everything should work perfectly if Oculus puts any effort into it. As for the aftermarket cables + extension, for me I tried out several combination of these and had all sorts of issues with noise and dropped frames/dropped signals, not to mention the heavier and less flexible cables were a lot less comfortable. It doesn't seem like flex in the cable would be a big deal, but it really is. I don't know why someone doesn't make a good thin aftermarket cable, but as far as I know, there isn't anyone else that makes a cable like what Oculus produces. Personally I tried to go cheap, went through a bunch of returns on Amazon, and eventually gave up and just got the Oculus cable and I think it was worth it, and if the Quest 2 uses that bandwidth, then it's really worth it.

With a wireless mouse and keyboard you can be an absolute lazy slob and just play on your PC from your bed. It's insane that Quest 2 costs £299 (overlooking the whole FB factor of course.... Hey! Thanks for the informative vid! How’s the image quality on the Quest 2 wired vs wireless (vs native I guess, is there any kind of image compression or things like that). What about performance overhead (I know that wireless is 90hz but does it add significant workload overhead to the PC thus requiring reduction in graphics settings?)
@idrumsometimes3 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried this wireless method and I’ve managed to start up games but wasn’t actually able to play them so if I could get some clarification that would be amazing

I have quest 1. Play pc games using virtual desktop. They play fine as long as your WiFi is fast enough. Sometimes controllers lag for like a milla second. Bone works is all I play lately. Or onward.

Great video! Thank you for the high quality video and no nonsense way of dealing with what could easily be a VERY tiring wall of text! That takes skill. I love learning about complex functions, systems and ideas (im a self taught hardware hacker/hobbyist "engineer" where i create and program hardware items like screens, read sensor data, set up communications protocols etc, thats just a small part of everything i do and have done as i LOVE complexity and get easily bored by repetative work) and im following many incredibly talented engineers, testers, programmers etc that are no doubt great at what they do. What they can struggle with is Delivering that wealth of information in a way thats interesting or doesnt just turn into a drone. You delivered a lot of information in a short amount of time and dumbed it down to a nice relaxing level, getting to the points quickly and spent the right amount of time on each of them. This subject might not be that complex but a great foundation for future choices, do's and donts etc. I love it!

I started with Rift and Rift S. Later on I had Pimax Artisan and HP Reverb G2. Today I ordered Quest 2, due to some testeng of Pitools, WMR and Oculus software. For me on a midrange PC there is deffently better running VR through Oculus software. So untill the day, where I get a higher end GPU, I sure am looking forward to try out Quest 2 together with my PC and as stand alone device ....

Bro so I hope someone reads this cause this is just wild, but also pointless I just thought it was awesome. I went I to Walmart to get this vrset and then to parking lot to watch a quick video if I needed a cable to play on pc cause I noticed on the box there wasn’t one besides the charger. So I go back into Walmart and get the first type-C to type-C decently long (10 feet) cable I could find. I sit back in the Walmart parking lot and see the video before this just to double check and he talks about how he’s gonna talk about this video soon. So I scroll through his channel and find this video. He’s at 3:15 when he talks about the cheaper version which just so happens to be the cable I get!! And I’m so happy about it cause a new VR user Thats been wanting one for so long but didn’t have the money just yet I’m so happy I didn’t get the 80$ original cable and so luckily got the anker one!!! Silly little story I hope someone can relate :)

Ok but once you have it all set up how do you go back and forth from the oculus "home page" to PCVR "home page"? Best I can come up with is plug/unplug the link cable. There has to be a way to do it within the oculus 2 interface when you're wearing your headset.

it used to be. Usb 2.0 can't do as high of a bitrate, but it works just fine for me. I've played Half Life: Alyx, Dirt Rally 2, Onward, Pavlov, Boneworks, VtolVR, and more through it with no issues.

You gave a disclaimer back on 9-28-2020. How is the method working today to play steam on the Quest 2 on 10-19-20. What are the negatives if Oculus goes haywire? Quest 2 is limited IF not on Steam.
