Thanks so much!! This is the first Randy Rhoads solo I've attempted. After 2 weeks I can play it at about 75% speed. Tells you how bad I suck!! For me it's not about learning covers, but I want to learn more techniques...and there are tons of unique ones in this solo. I'll be trying this out at the music store on the JIVA10 I can't afford!! :)) Subscribed!!

so..here's my question..is the trill from 14-17 done with a whammy or does Randy cross his hands and pull the string up with his finger? I've seen people do both...if fact, there is a vid of a live performance of Randy doing the part in question; where he crosses his hands and pulls up on the string. seems like an authentic vid and no one in the comments questions if its Randy or not.
@JoeyRapps14 жыл бұрын
@8:39 Randy didn't use the bar for that lick. He used his right hand to bend the B string between his left hand and the nut. kzbin.info/www/bejne/inaXoYCpZaudi6M

Hi Chris, love your lessons they are awesome. I have a guitar question - I have the same PRS SE Dave Navarro and I even upgraded it with locking tuners. I love how it sounds but I can't even breathe on the whammy bar without it going out of tune. How do you manage to keep it in tune?

@ilir968 жыл бұрын
Great one!! Thank you! I've been waiting for this one! One question though: Your guitar doesn't seem to have a Floyd Rose bridge Then how does it stay so perfectly in tune after all those whammy dives?
@gregorymacdonnell79147 жыл бұрын
@ Ilir Piliki Floyd Rose systems are a big pain in the ass! If your guitar has a perfect line from each string drom Bridge to Tuners is the key!!plus a grafite teflon nut,or a brass or Bone nut, the pitch will stay in tune for the most part,especiallu if you wipe a little chap stick on the nut. The wound strings are the ones who put you out of tune as they grab onto the nut. Why is the Fender Strat have all the strings on one side of the headstock? A PERFECT line from bridge to tuners. Leo Fender was ahead of his time, Les Paul gets all the credit(he deserves it!) and fender is considered second. I Love Les Paul `s and I love Strats,I only own 1 Les Paul, and I have 3 strats (all customized by yours truly) to get a different sound out of each one. I also have a few Ibanez RG`s and a Premium. Fucking Killer guitars are Ibanezs`. The handmade binding and the DiMarzio Ibn pickups rock! All of my axes have shaved down necks (not the les paul) so yhey are trim and natural wood and sleek as hell feel. All have Graphite nuts on them,to keep the low E grabbing and throwing the tuning out. So there is some of my little bag o` Tricks that may help you!!! Cheers!

I played guitar for a few years as a teen and couldn't master the solo. Stopped playing for 10+ years and just recently picked up the guitar again. I'm getting better, but for the life of me I cannot match the pace on the first part of the solo. I guess it'll come with practice but try as I might to match the cadence I mess up royally, even though I know which notes to hit. Sigh Great instructions though 👌

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times: tuning you guitar down a whole step makes the tuning b flat. It is always relative to the note c not the e of the sixth string. If you tune your guitar down a half step it would be b natural. It you tuned it down a minor third it would be in a. A b flat clarinet is basically the same thing as a guitar tuned down one whole step.
@ssolo86 жыл бұрын
Well you're going to say it a thousand times more, because guitarists don't really give a s*** about clarinets. we're going to keep calling it E flat because that's what our E string is tuned to, period. Get it? Don't make me tell you a thousand times. 😉

Really great but then... WTH? The weird random part you did with the trem was done by yanking on the string behind the nut. There are pictures or Randy doing this. You make is sound really good though. The WTH is that last run is a series of pull offs descending then slightly up on the trem then grab that low note and let it come back up before sliding back into the main riff.
@hemorrhoids40228 жыл бұрын
I've never seen you play a Guitar with a Floyd rose Trem system and I think I know why, Because the Picking Technique you use doesn't involve you planting your Pinky finger down like many Guitarists do, As you in particular use the bridge of the guitar as a picking base, which on a Floyd would cause it to sound out of Tune.

It didnt sound like the studio recording. Especially the whammy part. Ive NEVER heard ANYONE play this solo exactly like the record and ive heard countless great players attempt it. Lets face it. There was only one Randy Rhoads. Ive heard a few players get close to cloning that solo but failed. It must be nearly impossible to perfect it because i havent heard anyone do it since Randy died in 82 !!
