Great video. I used to play this game with my grandmother, and were both VERY competitive and weren't good losers (but we were good sports). It;s an excellent game, when played with a core skill set that favors skill over luck can provide enjoyment and a skill set regardless of one's career path that will last a lifetime.

I'm our home you have to roll a solid 6 before you could be hatched or get out of your starting block. Ever time you roll a solid 6, you get to roll again. You cannot roll again even if you roll a double unless it's a solid six. Also after you capture a piece, you do not get to move any further than the space you captured on unless you rolled a solid six. There are no safety spaces unless you are double up on a space outside of your end entry blocks.

1.U did not tell about 10 extra number when ur pawn enters in Home.. 2.U did not tell about Blockade open rule ..when double appears on dice say 6 6 .u have to open ur blockade. 3.when one player is sitting on safe cell other player can not sit in that safe cell.
@hughjorgan1000
@hughjorgan1000 6 жыл бұрын
Board Game Museum, You are wrong and Naresh Kumar is correct. Even in the old game, the rules are the same. Once a pawn enters home a player gets 10 extra moves on any pawn, assuming the moved piece has the spaces available. In addition, players cannot move a blockade (two pawns together) the seven spaces to maintain a blockade. All of these factors lead to quite a bit of strategy in this great old game. Lastly, in the event of three doubles, one most move the forward most pawn back to home, not just any pawn of choice.

Note: the 20-spaces after capture is not in the official rules. It is considered a common "local rule" so as to speed up the game. The rules of capture are very specific. One method not covered here is capturing from single die. For example, an opponent 5 spaces away on a non-safe, non-blocked spot, if you roll nine (6+3=9), you can (a) move through them without capture the full 9 spaces, (b) move 6 spaces placing you 1 space ahead fo them, using the other die , 3, for a different piece, (c) move 3 spaces and placing you 2 spaces behind them, using the other die, 6, on a different piece Same scenario, but now suppose you roll (5+4). The option (a) remains; you can drive past them moving 9 spaces. However, because one of the die is indeed a 5, they are captured by the first-die move before the second (e.g you capture with the 5, then choose to continue the remaining die 4 spaces. You can also obviously move just the 5-die spaces, capture, and use the 4-die on another piece, or move the 4-die spaces leaving you one back of them, using the 5-die on a different piece. The point is, so long as one of the die (or both of the die should you choose that route) has a value that lands you explicitly *on* their space, they're captured unless you explicitly use a configuration that avoids it.

What happens with the doubles bonus if I already have pawns inside home? Let's say I have 3 pawns home and roll doubles can I move the only remaining pawn the 14 spaces?
@SylviaRR
@SylviaRR 7 жыл бұрын
I had all three of my red pieces in Home. With my last piece, I got to the last space in the red spaces. You would have to roll a one to get into Home, which is impossible, b/c you have to roll two dice. You are only able to roll snake eyes. So my family said I lost since you have to roll the exact number to get into Home. My rolls were a 1 and a 4, then a 1 and a 5, then a 6 and a 4. I thought I should be able to get in by using the one from a roll, but since I only had one piece left out, they said you have to use all of your roll. They continued to play and rolled exact numbers to get into Home.

As long as you roll a 1 on one of the dice you move that piece home and you win (you disregard what is on the second dice). You basically have two chances to roll at least a 1 on the dice since you are rolling two dice. Your probability is greater.

1) If you have a single pawn in your opponent's starting point, and he gets out - your pawn will be captured and returned to YOUR starting point even though an opponent's starting point is a safety spot. 2) If you have a blockade on an opponent's starting point, the opponent WILL NOT be able to enter a pawn and be forced to use the roll for as much movement as the roll allows. If all four pawns are in the nest, and a blockade resides on an opponent's starting point, they forfeit their turn because they can't enter any pawns.

It's WAY more complex, and its complexity becomes readily apparent once you start playing someone who is skilled. When you have a four-player game of skilled players, sometimes the games can last hours. On several instances, we had to take pictures of the game board so we could resume later that day - or even the next day. I remember using a Polaroid camera to do this before the days of cell phones and digital cameras.

Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games I picked up a nice vintage copy at goodwill today for 2.00.We played it fine 3xcept one issue.My wife got one pawn on the last space before home and its impossible to roll a one with 2 dice to get home. How do you avoid doing that?
@robertclark4929
@robertclark4929 7 жыл бұрын
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Yeah we rolled one die. Getting into home is hard when you only need a low number. We were both near home and just started using one die.All our other pieces were already home at that point.

Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Lets say you have a pawn heading home and needs 3 spaces to get there. You roll a 5-3 Can you move the one home with the 3 and another on the board 5?

@@robertclark4929 She would roll both dice and if one of the dice she rolls a "one" she moves her pawn home. Basically she gets 2 chances to roll a one on one of the dice.

@@robertclark4929 That is correct she would move the one home with 3 spaces and another on the board 5. If she only needed a 3 to get home and you had no other pieces to move, just disregard the 5 on the other die

My 1975 Selchow and Righter edition has colored entry points and colored arrows one space before the HOME square for all of the opponents to identify the HOME PATH. At least the three previous editions made by S&C resemble the board that is used in this video, such as the 1964 and 1959 boards I have in my collection. To answer your question, you can pick any space as long as you use the correct home path.

@@BoardGameMuseumer It's important to note that you always play the game with two dice, without exception. Doing so negatively-alters the roll probability (i.e. you get shorted).

In the version I grew up with, we started out rolling only one die until one of the players got one of their pieces off the starting area, then, once that happened, we would switch to two dice after that and continue the game.
@Babs11285

Yes, you can move both of them home since you rolled a 4 and a 2 and those happen to be the number of spaces you need to get home on both your pawns.

I've been looking all over for a comprehensive tutorial. I don't understand how a simple game as this has so many different rules. even the names are different, such as Parchisi, Parcheesi, or Ludo. Which one is it? One version says five to get out another says six. This is ridiculous

No problem dear. The Patent name is Parchessi.With 5 no. u can enter.Local rule may go with 6 but the exact one is 5. Ludo is different from this Parchessi.Ludo is U.K.game whereas Parchessi is U.S.A game.
