Have to say, this is very cool. You folks not only created a thorough and well tutorial on PF classes, you made it entertaining and just silly enough to be fun. Kudos and well done!

I know this is restricted to the core rulebook and you even mentioned that when saying so, but ninja is an official pathfinder class. It is an alternate class for the rogue. It can be viewed here legally due to the OGL not considering the internet: www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/alternate-classes/ninja . I know you chaps know, by the way, this is for the people who are new to the system watching the video.

Yep, Pathfinder has an incredibly rich class selection to choose from. But we wanted to keep this simple. Thanks for pointing out that it is varied. Not to mention all the homebrews!

Saving Throw That's it, my path has been found! I'm going to play as the doctor, with maximum knowledge of the technical and arcana. Also, thanks for quoting David Tennant. I last saw him in Broadchurch. I miss him. Haah, even though he was playing a troubled police officer, all I could see was the Doctor's clone having lost Rose. It didn't help that the guy who played Rory was playing a priest in the series either.

I would argue that Rorschach is more of a Lawful Neutral character than a Chaotic Neutral character. He has a very strong sense of morality, yes, but this black and white view of life is more in line with the concepts of what is "right" vs what is "wrong" than what is "good" or "bad". The truth is that Rorschach does not follow the "right" thing to do out of a sense of empathy or morality, but out of a sense of duty and righteousness. He has a very strict and distinct moral code that will not be compromised even if it costs the life of innocents, because for him, the right thing is a tangible and objective thing. True, he does not follow the local law (since he thinks it is corrupted), but he follows HIS law. He can be cruel, sadistic, brutal, unforgiving and will not think twice about bloodying his own hands towards criminals, which is a behavior that is more Lawful than Good. The fact that he cares for the "right" thing takes him away from the Evil alignment (unlike Lex Luthor, who does not care), but his methods, his lack of empathy and disregard for those who act against what is good, push him away from Good. He is what Paladins should fear to become: a crusading machine with no remorse, no pity and no mercy. This, of course is a very simplistic view of such a complex character, but alignments are imperfect because of this.
@tylerrhoades539710 жыл бұрын
The internet will argue this as well. And they have; quite extensively. There's a 15-page discussion about Rorschach's alignment on enworld.org. tvtropes.org says lawful neutral, but most of the image macros say chaotic good. I've not read the Watchmen in some time, but from what I recall I think you'd be correct that he's more LN than CG. I just remember his actions at the end of the novel, where everyone basically excuses the deaths of millions of innocent people. Rorschach is the only one who reacts with disgust and fury. "People must be told. Evil must be punished." Seems to be a very empathetic reaction; almost excessively so. I'm not sure someone who presented himself as neutral would be so relentlessly intolerant of evil. I don't know. It's certainly an interesting discussion.
@dragonstryk72807 жыл бұрын
Rorschach doesn't lose his Good because of a lack of empathy or compassion. It is due to the tactics he employs, and is willing to put up with against those he has deemed to be on the wrong side of the law. His disgust is not at the idea of killing, but that justice must be served, that the deaths of innocents must be avenged. Were those millions of people to be career criminals, he would almost assuredly sign off on it in mere moments, regardless of whether they were in for assault, or career robbers, he would be okay with it. It's the same reason that Punisher hit Lawful Neutral, with long, deep, soul-searching gazes at evil (He's more than willing to kill in batch lots even villains who have hung up the cowl decades ago, will torture, and create situations where he has the villains kill themselves), while Judge Dredd is the epitome of True Lawful. People forget that each alignment has a spectrum within it, not just one set way. For instance, Wolverine, we can all agree, is Chaotic Good (Berserker rage, hold himself to a moral code that, while it has shades of bushido, is much closer to frontier law). Robin is also Chaotic Good, though he would likely abhor the tactics that Wolverine employs. Sure, Joker is Chaotic Evil, but then, so is Barbossa, who admonishes Jack Sparrow for his desire not to kill people. Jack himself starts the series at Chaotic Neutral, with people regularly thinking he's lost his mind, and his personal ethos ("Take what you can, give nothing back"). He's perfectly willing to rob innocent and guilty alike to line his own pockets, and keep himself in ship and rum, but abhors killing, while Barbossa pretty much starts at "It's much easier to rob people when they're dead".

I run a game for my teen-age daughter's group. They thought they were all being bad-ass when they chose CN alignments. Then I put them in a situation where they could all fulfill their CN fantasies....go burn a town down, loot, pillage. They all felt really guilty about what they ended up doing and decided they were a bit too good to be CN.
@Savingthrowshow10 жыл бұрын
Well played! CN is a bad influence alignment. Sounds alluring on paper until you're faced with situations that cause you to not be a ravenous murder-hobo.
@ghostfather13908 жыл бұрын
+Saving Throw while I agree that CN is a bad influence alignment, it does not necessarily imply a murderous demeanor. more sociopathic than psychopathic, which I would see as evil. someone CN might be unreliable, capricious, or even impatient or short tempered, without being mean spirited, or nice and considerate, for that matter. that is why it would be chaotic Neutral, not good or evil.

Thanks for making these videos. I just been trying to get into playing this game since it was on sale on Humble Bundle. I am also considering getting the beginner box so I can have the physical copy of it. I am new to pen and paper rpg's, but not new to rpg's in general. I use to play alot of Warhammer and still have figures of them and also played a bit of WoW, and other rpg's in video games. Since my bf has played D&D before and I never got into that we both thought about trying Pathfinder. This really helps to getting to figure out what I want to be and a little on what the simple classes have to offer. I just need to figure out a good name for my character and which race I should be before going into the game. Hopefully soon I will be able to read the beginner guide so I can create my character. :)

Saving Throw Our party included the King (Paladin) and the Magister (Wizard), it was my first time playing so DM rolled me a lv4 character to keep up with rest of party. Each bullet point is a different day, rest in between. - survived against snapping turtle, horse mount killed it. I was dying and wizard cast invisibility spell on me so the turtle focused on them. - ganged up on a will o wisp, punched it to death. Other members are scared of it before. - met a bunch of wargs, got crit against the monk and bit an organ. Paladin knocked off horse but we killed them. - met some boars, punched one to low health - got up into a dungeon, got chased away by the swarm of bats - same dungeon, wizard bought an AoE spell and we killed a skulls before I disarmed the wight (nat20 kick in the balls) in which our paladin dealt the killing blow - Met a witch-type outside our lands, talked with her and posted a fence around her house instead. - downtime, I got shurikens (x5) - Saw a mad attacker and a tiger, we got attacked then I mounted on the tiger after a succesful pin and killed it with flurry. Survived a backstab - Kingdom administration time, we got a new town and I advised them to build a hospital. King made me warden. DM says I am lv5 now, from 9.8k of xp points.

Can a Cleric use music to cast it's spells? just because I love music but don't what to be a Bard.
@Savingthrowshow8 жыл бұрын
A cleric merely needs a divine source for his or her spells. There is no music domain exactly, but that doesn't mean you can't use flavor text to get what you want! Also 3rd Part Publisher Purple Duck Games has stats on the "Art" Domain. This might be right up your alley. But talk it over with your GM! There's no rule against singing a spell! www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/cleric/domains/3rd-party-publishers---domains/purple-duck-games---domains/art-domain

+Saving Throw Thanks. I do not care if is music power. I still want Cleric powers just to use say a flute to cast them.
@Savingthrowshow8 жыл бұрын
Sure, that's just flavor text. You can channel your magical ability into an instrument if you want. No big whoop. That's what we say, but again clear it with your GM ahead of time and all should be good.

@rockerman4037 жыл бұрын
Deon Hargrove no. sorcerers are innately skilled in magic and arcane, meanwhile wizards are required to put effort forth to learn and master it. they work differently based upon how they get spell ranks, learn spells, how many spells can be cast, and whether they need to be prepared.

Deon Hargrove it's more in depth than what i said there, but I guess if you simplified it, then yes, one is born with innate talent and skill in the arts, and the other isn't. sorcerers will lstill have to put time in for mastering it don't get me wrong. one just has an easier time.

Gods, alignments... I always hated that nine point grid system like if life would be really that simple. I suggested to use that system just as a rough 'rule of thumb' orientation but not like a setting chiseled into stone like I saw way, way too often from many paragraph riders in p&p games and which killed those games on the long run. Personality treats are just too complex as to bind them to a single label as we all have a variety of moments which could fit in all kind of areas on that grid, some triggered even just by extraordinary moments in life. So until you want very much flat, boring comic book characters then you should try not to over-emphasize the alignment system in p&p games and use it just as a generic tendency trend of the character which can also maybe change for some over time, especially when the character faces some dramatic impacts in his existence, e.g. witnessing events which shake his believe in his value system. I even suggest to consider a player talking with his GM to talk maybe about such shaking event(s) in the players future to keep the game fresh by allowing that way some character development in the life of a game character to keep it alive and fresh before a flat never changing comic book character becomes stale and boring.

+steamsuck666 Well the system is a generally for most classes (Expect paladin) a rule of thumb, with characters forming more in depth personalities along the way.
@steamsuck6668 жыл бұрын
+OHEMGEKITTEHS I agree that it should be just seen as a rule of thumb suggestion. But you missed my point. I am referring to the majority of players I met over the years which follow D&D rules like they are some religious fanatics. THOSE who use books like a black and white written dogmatic rule book instead of a source of inspiration and philosophical guide line are the ones which drove me crazy over the decades.
