I'd never played any instrument until I was 45 years old, when thanks to KZbin, I taught myself to play guitar. 16 years on and I now play Banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, and harmonica. I'm now learning piano and saxophone. You are so right about singing whilst learning to play and instrument. I always sang at the same time as I learning guitar, as I found it the best way to know when to make the chord change and to keep the correct rhythm them and timing, it was like I became my own metronome. I have since met so many guitarist that find it difficult to play and sing at the same time, because they never did it when the learn to play. I have taught several people to play guitar over the years (helped) and I always tell them the same thing. The words don't have to be 100% correct, but the song needs to be in your head. Hum if you have to, sing the chord names, but if you intend singing later, do it whilst you learn. I also believe that listening to the music that you are playing, whilst singing, eventually works back the other way and helps keep my voice and phrasing etc in check. I'm no music expert, far from it and I've never had a formal lesson, can't read music etc. But this has been my experience. I'm now playing Knocking on Heavens door on the piano and of course singing along to what I play. I don't know if you'd be interested in doing some more lessons of easy classic rock songs, of the period, but if you were, I'd definitely be interested. Thanks for a great lesson, I really appreciated it. Kind regards Clive. NSW Australia...

@@robbeetube No I don't know it mate. I looked at it, watched both Sam Smith and pink, I enjoyed the Pink version. I'm afraid I live in a musical time warp and no longer listen to the radio. I use to try to listen to the radio and there are some very good new artists, but I just can't be bothered listening to all of the other stuff whilst waiting for a good song to come along. My music taste is very 1970s English, American and Australian rock back to the 1950s, Some American country and 1970s Glam...

@@robbeetube It’s all about sus2, sus4, pentatonic scale, and chord inversions. I understand all of this and I think knowing this gives you confidence. What would be helpful to me is a slow breakdown of the embellishments. With the knowledge I have I feel fairly confident I would pick up on it quickly.

@robbeetube2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robyn - the notes!! I’m not exactly sure myself! I’m playing rhythmically and improvising using notes in the key of G. A favourite ‘device’ of mine is to feature the second note of the chord in the filler bits. A minor - the note would be a B C - the note would be a D …it’s the 9th of the chord and would be written Am9 and C9 respectively. Hope that helps. Go for it 🙂🎹
