Pure speculation but her Dad's tuning could be Casey. As in he knew a player named Casey who tuned like that. Or he possibly attributed the tuning to Kansas City.

Frank Hutchinson had a similar song in the same tuning called K.C. Blues so part of me thinks it might have been a fairly well-accepted term for the tuning back then.
