How to play reggae rhythm guitar for brginners.
This lesson looks at three different strumming techniques that you should know.
These reggae guitar rhythm strumming style will help develop a very good repertoire and they are indespensable when playing live.
I played in the key of E minor, A minor and B minor. I should have gone to C major couple places but did not.
The first technique in the these three reggae rhythm guitar strumming style involve just simply strumming down and trying not to make the strings ring out.
The second guitar rhythm strumming technique involves strumming down and up quickly. Do note that I press the strings down on the down strum and release them on the up stroke.
Third reggae rhythm strumming technique involves resting your hand lightly on the strings to mute them and then strumming up and down.
I did use a reggae wah pedal for the last example and I have also posted a picture of the position of the wah.
I created the reggae riddim so if you are interested in it, please feel free to contact me about it.
rhythm guitar, strumming, reggae strumming, Reggae guitar solo, pentatonic scale, major scale, guitar scale, guitar solo, reggae instrumental, Riddim, reggae guitar lesson, reggae lesson, reggae riffs, reggae fills, reggae track

I was introduced to reggae in the early 1970's. Luckily it came to me much like putting shoe on. I play mainly roots reggae. It has been my love since the '70's.

Great insights! Especially the part of playing on the upper three strings so as to not muddy things up with the mid frequencies being played by the keyboards. I wish more musicians would understand the role of their instrument in a song and the range of frequencies that they should be targeting.

Great tutorial. As a reggae keyboardist who also plays guitar, this is the best tutorial I’ve seen on KZbin. As a keyboardist, I look forward to playing with a guitarist with this tone. It makes the bubble sounds great and I don’t have to move up an octave to sound like reggae on the piano hand.

@@playreggaeguide Thanks brother! It's easy to forget to check back for a reply! Anyway, I like to find songs and try to play along but my ears aren't developed enough to pick out the chords so I'm usually not playing them right. Common sense tells me I should just keep trying until it sounds right. Any other suggestions or tips for making this process easier? I like those AHA! moments. BE SAFE!!!

Hello! I was wondering if a right hand damping technique with open string chords is ever used in reggae or are only moveable chords with left hand damping only used? I have written a couple songs using the right hand technique but would like to do away with it immediately if this is incorrect lol. I was taught the right hand technique by a guitar teacher years ago but he did not have much experience with reggae music. Also thank you so much for this video and your content 🤙🏾 🌺 ❤️
