Most of the video deals with how to solve the tower, but it is presented in a very simple way. I encourage you to make one of these so that you can give it a try! Please enjoy.
To watch the other tower video:
• The Tower of Hanoi and...
For more about this puzzle, read the description there. To see a table of optimum solutions to the tower, see near the end of the video.
Here is a template, in case you would like to build the wooden one seen here.

You could probably just scale this up a little if you would like to make the cardboard version.

thank you for this. I've always loved the tower of hanoi, but never had my own set, so never had the time to find a rule for solving one. So thanks. It improved my day quite a bit. That said, this video also suggests I could've made a makeshift one anyways. Oh well.

Are you going to be making videos and projects that relate to each other, from now on? I like the cascading clickbaits :D I assume your ideas for projects are born from previous ones, so it's only logical to nest them together. Love your videos btw, great work :)
@pocket83
@pocket83 8 жыл бұрын
I guess it's like _Fight Club:_ You choose your own level of involvement. I put lots of stuff in these in case you are really interested, like I am. Most people are not. Anyhow, this follow-up was unanticipated. I made it because I was getting the feeling that the previous video was discouraging, and I would rather promote interest in the subject. But I suppose you're right, that lots of ideas come from other ones. In fact, while filming this, I was playing around with an incandescent bulb, and I generated two great video concepts while fiddling around (procrastinating) with the lighting. It's all stepping stones, I suppose.

hey man what tool did you use to cut the cardboard pieces into such cool contours?
@pocket83
@pocket83 3 жыл бұрын
Can't remember, but one of the better tools to use would be a scrollsaw. Use whatever you have in order to cut it, but if you want that crisp-looking edge, sanding it is the trick. A belt-sander makes it look perfect. Also helpful is to find some thick cardboard.
@desertazul
@desertazul 3 жыл бұрын
@@pocket83 excellent yeah that makes sense.. a scroll saw would be perfect, I was trying to use a razor, thank you.
@kwelchans
@kwelchans 8 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to remember is that the smallest disk always moves in the same direction. 1-2, 2-3, 3-1. You really only have to use the "Odd Towards" and "Even Away" rules for the first move if you follow this pattern.
@kwelchans
@kwelchans 7 жыл бұрын
Think of the pegs as being numbered 1, 2, and 3. Move the smallest disk from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3, then from 3 to 1. Between each move of the smallest disk, there's only one move possible. If you keep up this pattern, eventually you will solve it.
@whatsup914
@whatsup914 7 жыл бұрын
The way I remember this is if you have an ODD number of pieces, the first piece will go counterclockwise every other move starting with the first move. If you have an EVEN number of pieces, the first piece will go clockwise every other move. The moves that you are not moving the smallest piece around are pre-determined because you can't place anything on top of the small piece.

What is the max number of pieces can you use in this tower game?
@pocket83squared
@pocket83squared 8 жыл бұрын
That depends if you ever plan on solving it, and how long you live! If you use 20 pieces, it requires at least 1, 048,575 moves to solve it. The equation for # of moves is = (2^n - 1), when n is how many pieces. But technically there is no upper limit for pieces.

Ah it's so simple now. This reminds me of solving a rubiks cube. I'd always manage to get 3-4 in the correct order, but not the fifth afterwards, because I always tried to do the dirrect route, which in turn messed up the other pieces. Much like how I could figure out 1 side of the cube, but didn't know the algorithms or techniques to get a piece into place without hurting the other pieces. I'm guessing this sort of logic applies to those darn sliding picture puzzles I can't do as well lol

+David Lam -flamingsword1 Obviously the bandsaw was a lot faster than the CNC. if the race had started once they finished printing the gear design, Matthias would have finished long before the CNC ever started cutting. That's what in reality makes the bandsaw faster. There's no fiddling with computer specs. Also the gear that came out looked like garbage. They probably spent another 10 minutes finishing all the teeth. Meanwhile the bandsaw was done in 8 min with no further finishing required.

Terrance Storey er, you sure this is the right comment you're responding to?
@terrancestorey7254
@terrancestorey7254 8 жыл бұрын
I don't see how you can disagree with me. After they used the program to design the gear. It took them 10 minutes to convert it to a cnc file. Then another 4 minutes to set up the cutting table. Then 6 minutes to cut. Then another 10 to finish the garbage gear. It took Matthias 30 sec to glue the paper on to the plywood. And 8 minutes to cut a finished gear. 8.5 min is way faster than 30 min. You're stupid if you can't see this.

Terrance Storey +Terrance Storey once again, are you sure you're responding to the right comment. This is a comment I made on pocket83's Tower of Hanoi video commenting on the relationship between this solving technique and that of a Rubik's cube. As far as I'm concern your comment had nothing to do with what I said or even the video.
