I watched many videos and I can actually play a few tones but just for anyone who's complaining about their hands, it's actually not the problem. Your fingers don't need to follow the exact shape and placement as shown by all those videos. For example, for me, I had to cup by left hand under my right palm with only my left index and middle finger visible. As long as your chamber is air tight and you blow in the right direction through the right sized hole, there will be something. Also take not how hard you're blowing into the chamber and also the shape of your mouth as you're touching the knuckles. Make sure your lips are sealing them as well with the gap below your lips for the air to come back out. You can feel the vibration in in the chamber when you do get it right too.

Nice, thanks! With the video, this comment, and some trying around, I managed to produce my first whistle sound! For anyone else trying this: In the end, my problem was that I put my mouth too high up, i.e. too much of the hole was still left uncovered. Try experimenting with how much of the hole you leave open and how much of it you blow into!

If you can’t get it: 1. Check the space between your thumbs. (Too wide or too narrow) 2. Make sure there’s no air escaping (except between the thumbs) 3. Placement of the lips: place your lips loosely on the top knuckles and blow lightly DOWN into the whistle. 4. Don’t give up! Everyone’s hands are different, so you’ll have to keep making adjustments until you discover what works for you. 5. Blowing harder is not the issue. When everything is in place, blowing very lightly will be best.

We also done the mouth clap thing and made those balls on a string with BB's and clay, were they called bonokulas? Anyways I still have mine, no joke man I still do the hand whistle every single day and never fails to amuse people, especially children and I love watching them try till they get it the first time. One of the coolest memories i have of my childhood and school. I was only 11 or 12 then and I'm going on 25 now. Guys, I did it too. Required me around 2h of continuous trying just to get a small whistle full of "wasted air". Then I started to focus on where the air was escaping and I really clenched my fingers and palms on those spots. Currently trying it since 3 days for 1h each and it improved drastically. I'd say it's not impossible, you just have to spend a lot of time to understand the basics of the position, all the rest is practice. If'll ever get close to get a clear sound that wastes few air, I'll update this comment and try also to add some suggestions on what helped me to improve the whistle. But it's definitively easy to do, you just need patience and don't give up 'till you get the basics 💪 ------ 9 days update: I can do the sound pretty easily now, but sometimes I waste too much air so the volume isn't high as it should be. I'm also playin' with squeezing and relaxing the palm to create different tones. Tbh it's pretty fun. What I understood is that taking it as if I'm playing is the best approach, since the moment you're tensed/pissed off, you won't get any clear sound. Instead if you're relaxed it all flows naturally. I also did it in a D&D session and my friend were impressed XD Definitively worthy my time. I'll keep do it since I really wanna mimic what Tallahassee does in Zombieland :D ------ Alright, 2 weeks update: I think by now I have mastered the technique. I can produce the sound on first try, and even changing the tones. I can't do it perfectly as the guy in this video, we can tell he's training from years to literally whistle entire songs with his hands, but I can definitively change the tones when I want, or move my front hand to produce that nice "bird noise" sound. I'll continue to practice it, but I don't think I'll update this comment further since most of the tricks are those I wrote. What lead me here anyway was spending time on trying the technique. There's no magic around it, just try and try and try 'till you're satisfied with your result :D Stay strong, peace~

@@Josuh Still working on the clear sound. There are attempt where it's perfect and I can even squeeze my hands to get different tones, plus the "flapping hand" effect, and others where I feel like I still waste too much air. But definitively day after day it's becoming better

@@00MajinVegeta89 I feel like I’m doing everything right and it’s still just a blowing sound, maybe my problem is sweaty hands? If it is then I might as well quit cuz they won’t stop and blowing air on them makes it worse lol
@00MajinVegeta89 Жыл бұрын
@@rhino5250 Tbh I tried it even with sweaty hands and it works once you get the position, so it's not about having your hands dry or not. You need patience. As said first time I tried took me 2h or so of continous attempt and that day I just barely got to do the sound. My hands were tired and sore and I was pretty pissed off of course. But next day I tried again and took me less time. And then less the day after, and so on. Play with your hands, squeeze the palms closer on make them distant while being sure to seal the chamber with your fingers, move the hands up and down so the direction of the blow on the knocks of your thumbs will change angle. And most importantly, blow gently. If you get pissed and blow too hard you won't get any sound even if you're doin' everything correct. Keep try, trust me :D

For those of you still having trouble, think of it like a flute. You blow over the hole through your nuckles, not directly into it. Make sure your hands have a good seal too, or won't get a sound except air moving. Adjust your mouth on your knuckles until you get more than just the sound of moving air. The positioning of your bottom lip is more important than your upper lip. 👍 Ever made a bottle whistle? Same concept, blow over the hole!

Gonna chart my progress here if I can. Day 1: 15 minutes got a sound, cannot find it again. Size of chamber only affects pitch, angle of air blown in is integral to sound, possibility confirmed, skill issue remains. Day 1 query: between the top half of the slit lies the index finger, perhaps resonance is done through airflow diagonally, like a reverse metal whistle? Day 2: 7 Minutes Getting faster finding the right resonance, starting to play with modulation, looking for ways to make louder, air efficient ways to make sound. Lesson learned: the thumbs only need to be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground, but the knuckles don't need to be lined up perfectly. Day 3. 15 minutes Got kicked out of the classroom 😂 Day 6: Cannot get stable chamber when switching pitch, however I can now find the right position for resonance in under a minute.

I love how serious you are about this ...cracks me up And so generous to teach this esoteric skill to all. I am strangely sure that you can also Tuvan throat sing, play a jaw harp and make a dripping-tap noise by flicking the side of your mouth as you whistle
