We started beginner classes for the year this past Monday. One of the new students came in and said "Hi, I'm Matt Willis." Haha, boy do we have a youtube channel for you!

The piobaireachd called Lament for Alastair Dearg has this in the ground and I have played this embellishment before
@MattWillisBagpiper3 жыл бұрын
Maybe this exercise can help bring this embellishment to another level for you. I'll have to look up that piobaireachd!

Hello Matt,i am mainly piobaireachd player ,private pupil of Andrew Wright Dunblane for décades.About darodo i got a question.In Cave of gold at the end of the Line you find a Darodo on low A instead of B Jimmy mac intosh was assuming that the PS was wrong in thé way published in book 16.I have never meet a Darodo on low A in any other pibroch. Have you any informations on such a Darodo on low A ? Thanks for your clever, instructives vidéos.
@MattWillisBagpiper7 ай бұрын
I wish I had more info for you on that, but alas, "Cave of Gold" is not a piece I ever had the chance to learn from a proper instructor. I did attend a pibroch workshop taught by Andrew Wright back in the early '00s and I learned SO MUCH about the art of piobaireachd from him.

I just started learning Susan MacLeod. First two parts were fine, but when I got to the 3rd part I knew it was time for some Matt Willis.

@@MattWillisBagpiper I have also been told that in piobaireachd some styles have you hold the first low g a split second longer then the rest of the notes after it

I'd like to hear how these sound on the pipes. So many difficult embellishments don't really pop enough to justify the pain of mastering them. They are just difficult movements with no payoff. The juice isn't worth the squeeze in some cases.
@rabidrooster65252 жыл бұрын
I would disagree, because it's not till they are played at a certain skill level that you can hear the payoff, unfortunately for us mortals it's pretty difficult. You won't hear this much in light music apart from a few strathspeys. Mostly you'll come across this movement in pibroch.

The reason that the 3rd part of Susan MacLeod is so hard 😭

I think most people refer to this as a bubble note
@MattWillisBagpiper3 жыл бұрын
I have also heard some top-flight players refer to the Rodin as the bubbly note, so I just avoided the term to reduce confusion.
