In the first of this week's The Doomed mini-campaign games, we show you how to play The Doomed, the new Osprey Games wargame. Gerry's Reborn Covens led by Warleader Striker take on the last bastion of humanity with Shay's Stevie G and the Inheritor Courts in this learn to play scenario.
During this first game of Osprey Games' new wargame, The Doomed, we explain the basic mechanics and get you learning how to play. The two factions are pitted against a manifestation of Hunger as a Devourer looks to sate its appetite and battle both sides!
NOTE: This game had to be refilmed due to a technical error. But, it doesn't spoil the campaign!

I really wish the rules made it clear that the Horror could activate after every player unit. At first read it seems like Unbound follow all the unit rules, which would mean its exhausted after its first turn... but then your video clearly shows it working differently. :(

Most Horrors (including this one) actually gets exhausted. Mistakes happen.

I just read the rules myself after watching OTTs videos, where they always seem to not exaust Unbound models, and was trying to figure out if I was just being thick or they rly were getting it wrong, seems it is actually not how the game is supposed to work. Was looking through all the comments to see if anyone else had asked as such, yours is the only one I found :)

I had a go at the playtest rules that McDowall had on his blog when it was initially called Grimlite and I thought the game was really fun. Pre-ordered the Osprey book as soon as I found out it was available. Can't wait to dust off the my Inheritors, The Carthigan Crusaders, and fight some new horrors, because not all 36 monstrosities were available in the playtest rules.

Hi ! Thanks for the video, but it seems to me that the Horror must be "Exhausted" after its turn. It seems you activate it all the time, after each model activation, and I do not see any rules regarding this in the book. Am I wrong ?

I love the theme and look of this game! I have also been wanting to try a "Boss Battler". Just a bit hesitant about the movement rules, but it looks like you can just measure 6" for your movement(?) instead of the "Just move until you hit something" approach, which I am not super fond of. Glad to see a actual play of this!

This seems to be the game of the moment, not only as far as OTT is concerned. The problem is, at the rate games are being published it may be forgotten in a month’s time. Any game with aspirations of longevity needs either some aspect of game play that stands out, or a major publisher behind it to ensure publicity, and even that may not be enough on its own. This one certainly has the latter but has yet to demonstrate compelling content to my eye. The players seemed to be having fun, though, and if this keeps up over the course of the campaign there may be something to it.

The gameplay seems super fast and there is indeed minimal keeping track of things. Have not yet decided if the one stat+euqipment+keywords make individual models meaningfully different on the table, will have to give it a rewatch for sure!

For having tested the beta, the difference between units is indeed quite important. Some keywords (called "mods") are associated with units (so you get those by default when you choose a particular unit), and others are associated with weapons and other equipments. An example with two ranged units: - one brings a gatling-like weapon (shooting faster if your model didn't moved this turn), - while another could use a weapon granting a weapon allowing to repel or attract its target on a hit (potentially causing a fall from elevated terrain or dragging the target toward their attacker to facilitate a finishing blow in melee). And you could add other mods to the units themselves (or change their qualities) to change even more how your units behave.

Looks like a quick, fun game. This demo doesn't seem like the best intro to all the rules, though- looking through the playtest version, a lot of the interaction between different team members was hampered by the staggered entry.
