The National Artist of the Philippines/composer Levi Celerio said that during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines, he was a civilian walking along this secret path to avoid Japanese soldiers. However, there was a whole troop of Japanese there who saw him and held him at gunpoint, asking him if he was a guerilla. He said "No. Musician". He grabbed the nearest object, a bunch of leaves, and started playing them. He said the soldiers sang along and laughed before letting him go.

@Xalphire5 ай бұрын
How do you control the pitch?
@leafophonist5 ай бұрын
This is tricky to explain. leaf Hardness/thickness: A stiff leaf makes a higher pitch, while a softer leaf produces a lower pitch, but it is more difficult to control. Mouth Pressure: Applying more pressure with your mouth can raise the pitch, while applying less pressure can lower it. Embouchure: The position and tension of your lips and tongue can change the pitch. (a little like changing the pitch when you whistle) A tighter embouchure typically produces a higher pitch, while a looser embouchure can lower the pitch. Air Speed: The speed of the air flowing through the saxophone can also influence pitch. Faster air speeds generally produce higher pitches, while slower air speeds can produce lower pitches. But mostly it comes down to practice, and listening and supporting leaf players.

Ok, but how do I do it?
@leafophonistАй бұрын
You seek the path of the Leafophone. Patience, young Leafawan. The path to mastery is long and arduous. It is not for the faint of heart. First, you must renounce all worldly possessions. Then, you retreat to the ancient Leaf Temples (aka any forest). Your diet? Strictly chlorophyll-based. Leaf salads, leaf smoothies, leaf tea... you become the leaf. Finally, you must undergo the Trial of the Rustling Wind, where you meditate for 40 days and 40 nights, listening only to the whispers of the leaves. Only then will you be ready to breathe music into them. To play the leaf is to become the leaf. You must achieve a state of Leaf Mindfulness, where your mind is empty of all thoughts except the leaf. You must practice Leaf Breathing, a technique that involves inhaling the very essence of the leaf. And finally, you must master the Leaf Blow, a subtle yet powerful technique that allows you to coax music from the green. This will take years of dedicated practice!

Try with some sheets of plastic. Take it slow, do it gently sometimes it helps to whistle a higher octave. .
@jaycenotsoanimations92165 ай бұрын
Isn’t this basically how a reed works?
@leafophonistАй бұрын
very similar yes, but with reed most reed instruments they are attached to a pipe which changes the pitch, in this case the amount of leaf that is vibrating is changed with the lips

Take it easy. try lots of different leaves. try play on the top lip, if that doesn't work try the bottom lip. Mostly the problem is that air is escaping from somewhere and it should only leave at one place. Keep on trying and you will get it right!
