Finished my nerdy gurdy today and learned this piece as my first one, it's a great one for beginners, as you learn an important scale and the climbing movements in one piece (but took me 2 hours for an 18-second piece, though 😅)

You're a great hurdy-gurdy player..also a great teacher.. you make it look so easy that makes me wanna have my own hurdy-gurdy. But then I remember how much I suck at music and simply enjoy listening to you playing. Thanks Patty for being as you are and share yourself with us. A squeezing (but respectful) hug and wish you end soon your album.

Thank you so much for making the Hurdy-Gurdy seem so approachable! Thanks to your encouragement in some previous videos I actually found where in the Netherlands I can learn how to play this fantastic instrument (they even rent them there if you take lessons, so you won't have to buy one immediately!) Now, all I have to do is find a job and then I can start practising and hopefully play your songs one day as well. You rock Patty. Loving everything you post here on youtube. Will buy your album (and those from Stormseeker) when I've got the money (being a student and all ^-^')

It's interesting watching your fingers as you show the technique of moving up and down the "keyboard". I was trained in piano and it is quite different. (And it has to be because of the different hand placement vs the motion of the keys.) Playing the keys on the Hurdy Gurdy appears to be similar to lying beneath a piano.

@BlitzsieLDiscoLSnow6 жыл бұрын
You can try googling the words vielle a roue (that's what it's called in French right?) together with the french words for 'lesson' 'learning' or other things like that. That's how I found out where I could learn it in the Netherlands! Just be prepared for it to be a not so short distance from home... Mine is at a two-hour travel at least :')

Bellaen i searched for "vielle à roue" on the web but we can only buy one at an instrument maker. Thanks for the advice. But i found something interesting on Amazon. It's a diy hurdy gurdy, It's like a puzzle. It doesn't sound very well, but it could be interesting to learn this instrument. You can hear what it sounds like here: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH6QapSpmr2arMk

Seriously? France is the country with the liveliest hurdy gurdy culture, there is no other place where it is easier to get an instrument and learn to play. They are made by luthiers, there is no other way to get a decent instrument (exept second hand).

The most interesting part of this is something you didn't even mention while you were doing it. TIL you can do vibrato on a gurdy by jiggling the key a bit.

Gonna need a over the hills lesson. I play guitar so if it's possible to get a tab for guitar of it as well that would be cool. Your music isn't easy to find online in tab form.
@syirogane6 жыл бұрын
It's simple enough that tab should be considered optional. Just start on C on the D string (index finger on fret 10) and use minor scale fingering. Works quite well if you skip the [unwritten] grace notes. Anyway, quick and dirty (each line is a bar, letters are string name (standard EADGBE tuning)): D:10 10 12 13 10 A:13 D:12 10 12 D:10 A:10 D:10 12 13 10 D:12 G:10 12 G:13 B:11 G:13 12 D:13 G:13 B:11 G:13 12 D:13 G:10 D:13 12 13 D10
