Hey! Hey! Parris was a super genius. I got to know about him about 13 days ago when i watched Jamal Hartwell paying trubute to him. His love for the Lord as a musician drew me to him easily and i have been checking out his videos every single day. He is a role model to me now. His skill is just unexplainable yet very simple and humble. His Nord sessions are unique. A Legend 4 Christ you are. Rest in heaven G.O.A.T. #MitchesMoves

Love what Parris says about keeping things simple. Indeed, I've found the ego of music is often found in the complex chords and fast runs, while the heart and emotion shows in volumes by speaking with less. Respect and RIP to Parris Bowens.

Man did you just say a MOUTHFUL!!! To be honest, sometimes that's a struggle for me seeing I've never went to school to learn piano.....( been a OTR truck driver a large portion of my life), and am God-taught. I write quite a bit as well and when I get around musicians who play WAY better it can be quite intimidating but I've been learning more and more concerning LESS IS MORE and playing from the heart more important than playing to be heard. People WILL feel your heart on your music. EXCELLENT POINT.

This explains why I gravitate to your style! I can’t understand how you got people saying that playing simple is wack. You can’t play that style without simplifying things. To me it’s still complex because rhythm and flavor and creativity is so crucial

Wow.... so he was one of the musicians behind some of the work of top notch artists like Musiq Soulchild and Glen Lewis; Jill Scott too? I've only just learned about Parris and the platitudes associated with his name; This man was in the " musicians' musician " category. Anyway; on a side note - This is the thing that I lament about the introduction of CD's, not that actual medium, but rather, the information or lack thereof, which you previously had access to on LP's, of a list of musicians and instruments (most of which I had no understanding of). Even as a teenager I loved reading that stuff - because you'd often get a surprise seeing who played on an album. I noticed the significant lack of 'personnel' information on CD info, after a while.

It's so interesting.... As a guitar player, what you're explaining is almost exactly the same as our (guitarists) default approach when it comes to playing those styles of music... All the way from the decrease in notes played when playing changes to how the wurlitzer is accented on top... It's funny because I learned guitar through mentors that were keyboard players and they learned from other guitarists. I love it!

Really nice view video, and excellent description on the philly style. At 10:49 I believe, I like how you mention it’s best to simplify. No need to over play in the music. You should leave room for other instruments. Younger musicians have no concept of this. Any way great vid.🎶
