Amruta Mokal is a WIM Elect (5 WIM norms!) with a current rating of 2078. Her highest live rating was 2199 and she has been the former National Champion under-16 of India. In her younger days she has played and beaten many top Indian players like Humpy Koneru, Vijayalakshmi, Tania Sachdev and others. She is also the co-founder and creative head of ChessBase India.
She has been a Sicilian lover right from childhood. She has not played any other opening. And Kan is her favourite Sicilian. In this part I, Amruta will teach you the basics of this opening. Why black employs this specific move order and will also show one of the miniatures from her playing experience.

Only watched the first 20 mins so far, it's so good to see a video on the opening that actually talks about the key strategies, structures and ideas first, rather than saying 'it's about understanding' before just rattling off loads of concrete variations. Looking forward to learning and playing the Kan, thank you!

2:39 - Beginning of Sicilian Kan variation Strategic Ideas in Kan:- 4:54 - Light squares control by black’s pawns 5:22 - c2 pawn is weak 6:01 - c4 is a lucrative square for a black knight 6:28 - The three long diagonals along a8-h1 are important 6:50 - Play happens on the dark squares 8:28 - Very few lines does white go for long castle, so black is less likely to face kingside attack. 10:04 - Black has to play Hedgehog variation if white goes for Maroczy Bind 11:45 - Apart from c2, there’s one more potential weak square of white. 13:00 - c2, h2 and e5 are important squares. White wants to push e5. 25:29 - Black’s main idea is …d5 break, if not possible then …b5 break, and if that too not possible then …d5 break. But Black has to break open the centre by either …d5, …b5 or …f5 29:47 - If you get white’s dark squared bishop in Kan, you are supposed to win that game. Black’s dark squared bishop is very important, as black’s pawns control the light squares. And elimination of White’s dark squared bishop is just as lucrative. 31:20 - After white’s f4, black can take the light squared bishop and white will face problems 46:38 - …h5 attack will only work when white has already played c4 Variations:- 13:42 - 6. Be3 Facing the English Attack with Qd2 and f3. 17:16 - 5. Bd3 23:23 - Game 1 (Patrick G Wolff vs Florin Gheorghiu) 1:00:50 - Recap of everything

After 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.Be3, could black play 6...Bb4 instead of 6...Nf6 to immediately put pressure on the knight, and after 7.Qd2 black can transpose into the line in the video with 7...Nf6? Is there a difference between switching up this move order?

Hi.currently I'm playing nijdrof.I have watched this full video.qc7 idea is good.if my opponent is a low rated player then they play c4 and make easy draw.because black's white bishop is not active for long time.my oponent can easly exchange my pieces

Maybe one reason this opening isn't played as much is that after Black plays ..a6 White can simply play c4 and lock the d5 square down in a Maróczy Bind. This is playable of course as Black but it isn't that fun.

I'm playing sicilian.e4-c5,Nf3d6.if my oponent did'nt play d4.then i play g6,Bg7 and o-o. For sicilian kan, what is the plan for closed sicilian?
@thenpguy5852
@thenpguy5852 6 жыл бұрын
You can still do the same against the closed sicilian. kan is only when d4 and dxe4 nxd4 and then e6 and a6

No, but if you like the positions that arise in the Kan the Nimzo Indian/Queen's Indian defenses might appeal to you for use against Queen's pawn openings.

I love to play Sicilian because white is not able to use any short tactics n I can stay longer in the game. I take him into the dark Amazon Forest n slaughter him with my waghnakh. (Nails of tiger)
