I'm a disabled Vet. With a life long love for the violin. Seeing your KZbin posts and your incredible gifts as a teacher, musician and craftsman of such incredibly beautiful violins. Along with battling your physical ordeal and returning back to continue granting us with your educational videos, all I can say is thank you and well done sir. I would be honored to own and play one of your creations. If you can let me/use know how I can be done? Again thank you.

I was 58 when i decided i’ve wanted to learn to play the violin. I wanted to learn before that, but did not have the money support. I had no aspirations to perform publicly, only to write another for of music to my poetry. I dont care if i’m not good. Or if a violist thinks i should give it up. I only have to please myself. Your videos are passionate and i enjoy them.

After listen this lesson 1, I was searching for the lesson 2. But then, I realize that 1 year is a little time to absorv the teachings of this lesson one. Well, I will not be ansious for the lesson 2, so takes a long time to absorv this teachings. I will meditate, think and feel the teachings with no hurry (sorry my poor english, I'm from Brazil).

When I was a child in school my first interest in instrument was a piano as I grew up and mature in adulthood my interest and instruments fade away. But now at an older age my interest in an instrument is the violin I am a beginner I wish this man would be my master teacher I've started viewing his videos

As mentioned in the book "Two Trees" and in the upcoming documentary "The Devil and the Angel" my shop is outside any city limits in the American Southwest (18 miles northeast of St. George Utah / 120 miles northeast of Las Vegas Nevada). My doors are temporarily closed and I am living the life of a hermit for the next year or so while I finish making a set of 12 inlaid themed violins and their cases. A violin like the Angel shown in this video with its case sells for around $75,000.00 US. youtube doesn't provide email addresses, so for additional information about my violin, violas and cellos (though I need to update my website), go to kevinleeluthier.com or theromanticschoolofmusic.com or .org Thanks for your interest!

As much as it "pains" me to say it, but if she plays violin and you are looking to mother/daughter you should really think about a viola or cello. It would add so much "depth" to the "group". There are good violin duos but if you want to make awesome music as a group, Cello/Viola would make it even that much better. It "pains" me to suggest a viola to ANYONE because I got stuck with one and forced to play it 13-15 years..... I mostly played in a orchestra setting and loved the chance to actually do chamber music, but mostly orchestra setting and in that setting = viola is "forgotten" by 90% of the composers..... 4 viola and 35 violins = once I was trapped teacher refused to let me switch because 36 violins and 3 violas is even worse than 4 lol. But ya, if you wanna do a team thing, seriously think bout offsetting the violin with viola or cello, you can have fun with a viola in duo setting :)

"For those who wonder "What happens to all the young prodigies, who can play the great concertos by the age of ten, yet are never heard of again? What did they lack? Why didn't they become the next Paganini?" This all depends on how "hungry" the individual is. There was a high school girl rocking Caprice No. 5. Someone commented about how can someone like Lindsay Sterling playing that modern crap and become infamous (even people who cant STAND "Violin Music" know who Lindsay is) while people like this do not. It takes more than "skill" on a fiddle to do what Paganini did. Not only was the only NON SCRUB! in the whole world, he had to be his own advertising agent as well. When you think of "Magic" there is ONE name above all others..... Houdini.... why? His stuff was "antique" stuff, he mostly did "escapes" more than "magic" yet...... you cannot think Magician witout the thought of Houdini accompanying it. There are street performers doing mind blowing stuff that blows Houdini's "tricks" out of the water. They even take his "original" illusions and have improved upon them to make them even MORE mind blowing. The true answer is..... how "hungry" are you and how hard do you want to work for that level of "fame". Paganini rolls into a town and jams a song or 2 at the local tavern, now even if they have never HEARD of him, they want to go buy a seat at his "performance". The guy refused the king of England's invitation to come play at the palace..... He was like.... That SCRUB wants WHAT? HELL no, that SCRUB can buy a seat like everyone else! And the king was in the audience that night at the THEATER instead of a private show at the palace :) Ever seen those pictures of Houdini hanging upside down, dangling from a tall building in a straight jacket? What you do not realize is that the building he is hanging off of...... happens to be the newspaper office for that area...... He made SURE that when he did his "apetizer" he got FREE press advertising.... kinda hard to miss a guy dangling upside down from your office and you don't gotta "go" anywhere, the press was already THERE. Its not because they have master skills, it is because they are a good "self promoter" as well. I have heard some of the most awesome street performers that NOBODY can touch, yet they stay on the streets and never reach that level of fame. Someone shows me a guy rocking out on a huge drum set sitting in front of thousands of people because they want to show me this AWESOME drummer....... I pull out a video of a guy on the street banging away on 3 or 4 5galon plastic buckets with 100x the skill of that "famous" drummer. Hes beating on plastic buckets and even pulling the BASS out of it, he just lift one up with his feet so its not flat on the ground producing that bass note while hes using it for his snare drum notes too. Earl Scruggs on banjo..... How better to get your stuff in front of people? Write a theme song for a crazy show about some hillbillies living in beverly hills. Even KIDS today may not know who Earl Scruggs is, but EVERYONE instantly recognizes at least one of his songs even today.. He did one song that was a "rock" song on his banjo for the sole purpose of poking fun at the younger generation's "rock" music. Banjo Boogie sounds like kids at the beach rockin out on their guitar playin the kids popular music of the time.... so Earl puts one out where he does just that..... one note at a time and you can just HEAR the boredom in the song as he played it, and ends it with a MASSIVELY out of tune note (he loved doing that). Banjo gets a bad rap and deserves more "love" than it actually gets. Now..... take those few "Masters" who are also good at self promoting..... I do not even want to IMAGINE what kind of talent is out there "hidden" away where only a few ever get to hear their "awesomeness". Fame does not make anyone a "Master' it just means you are good at advertising. The BEST thing since the wheel is YOU TUBE, if it wasn't you tube, then the "Idea" of it. At least some of these Hidden away talents of the world can be heard even though they are not filling a football stadium with 20000 screaming fans. I found a guy that put Charlie Daniels down. Before this guy, the best version of Orange Blossom Special was his hands down. This blind hillbilly could SCHOOL Charlie Daniels. Daniels even said the guy is unreal. You need descent speakers to really "hear" this live recording, its not bad if you got good speakers to listen on or descent headphones that are not "plugs" that put a lil bass in.... if all you are listening on is your phone speaker, then you loose 1/2 of the "detail" that is actually there kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGrHlHmgjJWFkJY this guy is just AMAZING..... BTW if you pause it when you get a good full view of all his strings.... count his strings..... hes playing a Violain!! A fiddle was not GOOD enough for him.... he had to slap the viola C string on his fiddle too so hes playin a 5 string violin :) When he is in a "group" playing and someone else takes the "solo" he bcomes the "precussion" when hes not in the spotlight.... he will beat the bow over the strings to get the "drum" effect, not playing any real "notes" its just to get the percussion "role" since they don't have "drums" in the group. You almost forget hes blind but before he plays, he usually reaches out to touch the mic so he knows where its at...... Truly amazing "hidden masters"

A few things. I would never recommend practicing for 17 hours in a day. It's counterproductive on almost every level. 4-6 hours should be your max. Also, I think the greatest aim of a musician should be to do the composer justice. Would they enjoy what you have made of their work? Also, I'm not a fan of fluff. I believe what Heifetz said: It's 99% perspiration, and 1% inspiration. You can believe that you're living and dying with every note if that makes you feel good, but it had better be in tune and on time before you go looking for lofty platitudes to describe what you're creating.

He didn't recommend that one should practice for 17 hours a day. He merely said that's what HE did with his own violin and time.
@Violamanben
@Violamanben 8 жыл бұрын
SpiritBear12 That may be, but I wanted to make sure it was known that practicing that much was a terrible idea, and that no one should ever repeat that mistake.

Violamanben Well, you can't day he wasn't dedicated. He makes violins too and they sell for a mighty pretty penny, so I'm pretty sure he knows how to tune them too.
@Violamanben
@Violamanben 8 жыл бұрын
SpiritBear12 Sure, you ca say he was dedicated, but that only goes so far. Consistency's only a good thing if you don't suck (not saying he does, it's just a remark). I have no idea what his instruments sell for. I wish him well in spite of his videos. I'm not sure what tuning instruments has to do with this. Moral of the story: don't practice 17 hours a day, and don't love each note, endeavor to play it well.

After all my surgeries and medical problems these past couple years, I am finally filming my next video. It should answer a lot of questions; including how to efficiently "practice" up to 17 hours a day, (even if it's not with a violin in your hand.) The other good news is that I am now able to practice seriously again for the first time in many years, and can finally show how the lessons at The Romantic School of Music can actually work. While Heifetz did take lessons from Leopold Auer (a Master of the Romantic School of Music) Heifetz rejected many of his greatest teachings and he is not to be confused with a true virtuoso. As Leopold Auer taught, "after perspiration and perfections, then comes the art." Heifetz taught that it is up to the performer to technically perfect a piece and for the audience to appreciate it. The Romantic School of Music teaches us to love and savor every last note, and for the performer to set the stage and perform each piece uniquely, in their own way, so that the audience is left inspired and emotionally fulfilled when it is over. As far as the price of my instruments: I am currently working on a set of 12 themed violins that are being sold for $75,000.00 each.
