Custom Cursed Run ... Courier as the first relic drop ... bought Wax Seal, Molten Egg & colorless cards until 3x Mind Blasts ... HP over 9,000 and the Mind Blasts instakilled Wax Seal is from Replay the Spire mod ... right click at a store to get 100 gold and an IOU curse added to your deck ... this was before Wax Seal got nerfed to 3/shop PS, I *only* play modded ... and at the time, I preferred custom runs to standard starts ... felt like a meme run from the jump and it got me into the game

We talkin' my first A20 Heart kill? That was a loooong time ago. If I recall correctly, it was very hard at first, because...well, because it's a hard game and it was my first time getting to A20 with Watcher. Lol. I had to do the hard work of really calculating my damage, as there was no equivalent to Silent's Catalyst cheese (for example). Anyway, Deva Form was the MVP. I had infinite energy and could fully take advantage of the Heart's attack patterns. *Shrugs*.

I'll never forget getting 3 omniscience and having 1 of then bottled lightning for first turn. Then running an alpha. I'd select one of my omniscience from the bottled one so it plays twice. Then select an alpha. Then I'd select my other omniscience for the 2nd pick. Then the 3rd I'd pick the beta, and my 4 I'd get omega played twice. End of turn 1, 100 damage. Every turn.

After seeing only the first hour of your run, I was inspired to begin a new run, and immediately got a heart kill applying the insights I learned from your video. Was super OP. Holy cow, as a frequent Albino watcher, the Defect is what he mostly plays. And I thought the powerful combos such as Dead Branch Corruption on Ironclad or Defect with artifact echo form biased cognition with glacier and inserter/runic capacitor was overpowered. The 3rd act powerspike in this video blows those out of the water in terms of setup time to lethal damage.

New to StS- I was desperately stuck on Watcher compared to the other 3 heroes. Some great tips here Acts 1-2, but then you kind of popped off and broke the game in Act 3- probably not helping newbies navigate a typical run at that point but entertaining. Definitely excited to watch more of your walkthroughs.

One of the most consistently succesful Watcher strats to beat the heart is going infinite turn 1 off of Rushdown with stance dancing and help from Scrawl and Vault. She is that broken. That is to say Baalor breaking the game in act 3 is also a widely applicaple learning moment.
@MattykVT
@MattykVT Жыл бұрын
@@Ironsuaba do you mind going into more detail? Like card names and such? Sorry just starting out with Watcher and her dynamic is wayyyy different than everyone else.
@Ironsuaba
@Ironsuaba Жыл бұрын
@@MattykVT Watcher is the hyperaggressive character. She wants to remive defends over strikes early on, since Wrath gives her enough offensive power to decimate most early enemies before they can attack her. But strikes are usually not enough damage for chonkier enemies like Lagavulin, Nob and the act 1 boss. Very good cards for that are Reach Heaven, Carve Reality, Sands of Time and Wheel Kick - they do a lot of damage by themselves, as a single card. Which is good, since you don't want to add many cards that would bloat your deck and prevent you from potentially going infinite - while Watcher struggles to remove or exhaust enough cards to pull that off sometimes, she has the tools to quickly set up the infinites. Scrawl and Vault are huge examples of that, Scrawl draws a shit ton of cards which both gets all the deck into your hand and Vault gives you more time to set up. Rushdown both makes the usual infinite and helps set it up, since if you take a couple of Tranquilities or Crescendos you can use them to trigger Rushdown more times, generate energy and overall manipilate your current stance easier. You also want some kind of way to consistently block, since Time Eater and Heart won't let you just punch them to death turn 1, and one turn kills are often not a feasible thing to do. Talk to the Hand and Mental Fortress are particurarly good and consistent block sources, though Talk might want you to doec into more debuffs to remove the artofact charges on the enemies since it's also a debuff. If you're infinite, the shop relic Abacus can solve your block issues once you're set up. The strategy I gravitate towards is to try and find one or two good, beefy damage cards, and if I succeed I aggressively kill elites to find good rares, gold and relics that may help. In events and shops I prioritize removing basics and trying to go below 8 permanent, as in not exhausting or power-type, cards - that's the amount you need to be infinite vs Heart.
@Hyperfoxeye
@Hyperfoxeye 2 жыл бұрын
13:35 i think this is a case where i look at the map. The 3 rooms of 1hp can be amazing if you find a decent route that chains via shops and ?s to an elite. Usually one is pretty common but ive rarely gotten two elites killed on 1hp which can jumpstart your game to play more aggressively

Out of all of the StS content creators you are the one I can actually watch without going crazy, or feeling like it's a waste of time but still walk away with more knowledge of the game. Too many of them ramble too much about abstract things while claiming they're not abstract, talk to chat WAY too much to the point that a run is well over 3 hours long or say constantly obnoxious things the entire time (although there is one guy that at least does this in an entertaining way). Thank you for the great content. I'll definitely be checking out more.....after my watcher run.

I'm a new player and learned a lot from watching your Defect tier list and some runs. The other day the daily climb was a Defect with Watcher cards so now I'm trying to learn this deck too. Right after I watched this vid, I had a run where I also got the Omniscience + Wish combo, never would have thought of that if I hadn't seen this. I also got a Deva Form which was insane with Omniscience (maybe overkill tbh) and a second Wish. Then I picked up a Snecko Eye + Prismatic Shard leading to a Corruption and Enlightenment which was completely ridiculous. Such a fun run, also had the Shovel and got a ton of artifacts. This was my first A1 win.

So, I found out that the reason Blasphemy isn't removed by Orange Pellets (or other debuff removal) is because the game technically considers it a BUFF, not a debuff. That's kind of a clever way of making it so it can't be so easily removed.

I tried to find some guides but to be honest, most of the STS guides/videos are long af lol. I was not able to win, even after trying for a few days, so I just decided to watch your video. Great guide, thank you! I've had this game a little over a month and only beat the heart with the Silent so far, thanks to an upgraded catalyst (and plenty of luck I'm sure) -- this was only on A2, mind you. My mind is a little blown watching A20 runs that are so much harder than where I'm at, yet are so much more successful. OK so I think my main 2 problems playing this character are 1) going by feel instead of doing the math, and 2) over-prioritizing block. Oh and 3) adding cards at every opportunity (although that applies to all classes! I just can't resist!). Uhhh and 4) always having to rest so I lose the opportunity to smith (again, applies to all classes). I'm scared not to do that cuz usually if I can't take a few huge chunks of damage, I die. Yet you make it look so easy, dude. Guess I need to watch more of your vids :D

If I were you I'd consider adding mantra cards if: 1. I'm looking for an energy source usually circa Act 2 or 3 2. I've been bestowed with a card/relic that synergise with mantra (Brilliance and Damaru are reasonable choices IMO, if you come across Mantra cards as a result of a transform you could also consider adding a card) 3. I'm thinking of Act 3 defensive and/or damage scaling plan. Note that entering and leaving Divinity triggers Mental Fortress effect That's just a few examples

If you are offered Worship, it's often a great idea to take it. (After all, playing Worship on the first turn and then again 2-3 turns later is absolutely fine, and is very similar to how one prepares Wrath form anyway). Once I have just a single copy of Worship in my deck, the other Mantra cards become a whole lot better. .

I only like mantra if I transform into it. Pandora's box or Astrolabe providing mantra is a great reason to push it further. You can also adopt mantra into one of watcher's infinites. 1:09:26 Brilliance has such high base damage that it's worth taking even without any Mantra cards in your deck ... and it's incentive to add Mantra cards later 🔆 1:56:02 I've never skipped Hand of Greed from the Tesseract pretty much ever, unless a vastly superior card was offered ... ie, Apotheosis or Master of Strategy 🧊 1:58:25 ROFL!! What a store!! Apotheosis and Bottled Lightning ... man, I nearly fell out of my chair ... Tantrum and a card removal are good too ... time to pop off 🍾

Tesseract is pretty late for Hand of Greed to be particularly good. 2 energy for 25 damage isn't particularly good at that stage and the money isn't that relevant.

@@Sidnv Considering the very NEXT floor gave 999 gold with Mind Bloom, yeah ... but at the time, didn't know that. 🤯 My comments are always divergence regarding what I would have done at the moment ... and a heavy hitter like Hand of Greed is still good 👊

@@AvangionQ it really isn't, 25 damage for 2 mana is not great at that point. Also, you're unlikely to get a lot of greed kills by act 3 so it wasn't going to be a ton of gold either way.

Very informative video. Only suggestion would be that since you only unlock the Watcher after you've beaten the game at least 3 times, maybe reduce how much basic info you throw at the viewer as the video is already quite long. By basic I mean stuff like explaining what shops are, how to get cards, what icons mean, etc. This video is fantastic so don't take this as me saying any otherwise, just my opinion.

When you were talking about block density.. you said if it’s too low you won’t draw any block cards and if too high you won’t deal enough damage.. what percentage are you aiming for ??

about the video itself : while a reminder of the map isn't bad in any case, if we got the watcher we pretty much know what there is to know about it.

Watcher’s wrath form doubles all damage she deals and takes. By using a card that changes her to her calm stance, the double damage debuff wears off.

Watcher is actually a bit overpowered, as Wrath mode alone presents a solution (well, at least a partial solution) to beating most enemies. The catch is that you gotta calculate carefully with her, as a lazy/reckless player will leave themselves open to taking double damage. With Silent, for comparison, doing sufficient damage (and scaling damage that was sufficient earlier in a run) is a huuuuuge challenge. Furthermore, Watcher has great Block cards, and they often have great extra effects like Scry, stance-switching, or draw power. With Silent, blocking is often a big challenge too!
@josephhawkins7974

Experienced watcher players certainly are able to get more wins with her than with most other characters, however inexperienced players are much more likely to die to mistakes like staying in wrath or not taking the moment to go into wrath at the right moment because they were prioritizing survival over actually ending the fights. Silent is probably my second favorite character, just after Defect, and you're 100% correct that she can struggle with that balance for scaling on damage and block!!
